EYE SAW GOD
By Lars Kramhøft
PAGE ONE
1) A wide establishing shot, night. A small village of clay huts huddling together as if for
warmth lies in a windswept, snow covered landscape. Beyond the village is nothing but a frozen
wasteland. A group of Alternarians are gathered at the entrance to the village. They are a
stocky, bipedal race of insect men with huge bulging eyes and small tight mouths. The villagers
are bidding farewell to our main character, MIZUBAKI, an insect man like themselves, who is
dressed in furs and skins and has a walking stick in one of his forelegs. Two of the elders of
the tribe, distinguished by their more wrinkled frame, are giving Mizubaki some final
instructions, while pointing out into the wasteland.
CAPTION: THREE YEARS AGO THE SEASONS STOPPED TURNING, AND
THE ONCE-FERTILE LOWLANDS OF ANGH-ZAHR NATH WAS
SHROUDED IN THE ENDLESS COLD AND DARK OF WINTER.
2) Another wide-shot. Mizubaki waves goodbye to his people as he begins his journey. In the
background, villages of all ages and genders look after him with serious expressions on their
faces.
CAPTION: THE FENRIZ WINTER ROBBED THE ALTERNARI OF THEIR
LANDS AND THEIR FOOD. MANY DIED. THOSE LEFT ARE
STARVING. ONE DAY THE ELDERS OF THE TRIBE KNOCKED
ON MIZUBAKI’S DOOR AND TOLD HIM THAT THE
DREAMGIVER, THE GREAT BEJEWELLED SCARAB, HAD COME
TO THEM IN A COLLECTIVE DREAM AND POINTED TO HIM.
3) Another wide shot. Mizubaki walks through the snowstorm, passing the carcasses of huge
dead beasts that protrude from snow as if frozen in their death spasms.
CAPTION: HE HAD BEEN CHOSEN TO JOURNEY TO REDEMPTION’S
CLIMB FAR TO THE NORTH TO SEARCH FOR A VISION FROM
THE GREAT SPIRIT, THE SEASON SPINNER.
4) Medium-shot of Mizubaki in our line of sight as he strides through the snow. He is squinting
his eyes against the cold and the wind. Silhouettes around him hint at mounds and ridges in
the landscape, blurred by the ceaseless snowstorms.
CAPTION: AS MIZUBAKI STRUGGLES THROUGH THE DEEP SNOW THERE
IS A DOUBT IN HIS MIND THAT IS GNAWING AT HIM HARDER
THAN EVEN THE COLD AND THE HUNGER: WHAT IF THERE IS
NO GREAT SPIRIT? WHAT IF THERE IS NOTHING BUT
DARKNESS OUT HERE?
PAGE TWO
1) As Mizubaki makes his way through a ravine in the terrain, the huge, flattened head of a
furry centipede-like monster with powerful mandibles and eyes like fog lamps, peaks down at
him from the edge of the top of the ravine. The monster’s head alone is the same size of
Mizubaki.
CAPTION: ON THE THIRD DAY OF HIS PILGRIMAGE MIZUBAKI’S
SOLITUDE IS DISTURBED BY A PREDATOR OF THE WILD THAT
SENSES AN EASY PREY.
2) The Centipede monster hurls its long, segmented body out over the edge of the ravine and
charges down towards Mizubaki who looks up in terror. Its mandibles are split wide open and
look like they could easily clip him in two.
MIZUBAKI: !
3) Mizubaki jumps to the side as the monster pummels right past him, but it still manages to
tear off one his forelegs with its mandibles. The leg snaps like kindling, and blood splashes out.
Mizubaki still has his walking stick in his remaining foreleg though.
MIZUBAKI: AARGH!
FX: SHRAKK!
4) The monster turns around to strike at Mizubaki again. He crouches, tense like a steel
spring, pointing his walking stick at the beast like a lance.
MONSTER: HISSSS!
PAGE THREE
1) The monster rushes towards Mizubaki again-
2) -but he jumps towards it and impales its head on his walking stick. The creature dies
immediately.
FX: SPLOORT!
MONSTER: *
3) The creature lying dead in the snow, Mizubaki pauses for a moment to catch his breath.
MIZUBAKI: HNH... HNNN....
CAPTION: IT'S HARD TO SAY IF IT'S EXHAUSTION, SHOCK, OR THE
CONSTANT HOWLING OF THE ICY WIND THAT DOES IT...
4) Mizubaki falls to his knees next to the dead monster and raises his voice to the
heavens, tears streaming down his face.
CAPTION: ...BUT MIZUBAKI'S SPIRIT FINALLY BREAKS.
MIZUBAKI: GREAT SEASON-SPINNER, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN US?
HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN YOUR OWN PEOPLE?
5) Downshot of Mizubaki, looking up at the dark sky.
MIZUBAKI: IS IT SO MUCH FUN TO WATCH US CRY?!
CAPTION: AND THAT'S WHEN IT HAPPENS.
PAGE FOUR
1) Suddenly light illuminates the icy planes and Mizubaki is blinded. He raises his
remaing arm to shield his eyes.
MIZUBAKI: UUUHR---
2) Big panel, worm's eye perspective. Mizubaki in the foreground, looking up at the sky. It
has become like broad daylight, and the clouds are parting to reveal a gargantuan, bloodshot
human eye looking down at Mizubaki.
CAPTION: BIGGER THAN A MOUNTAIN. BIGGER THAN A DREAM. BIGGER
THAN A WISH.
A VISION OF THE GREAT SPIRIT, THE SEASON-SPINNER.
MIZUBAKI: AH.
PAGE FIVE
1) Close-up of the eye. It seems to frown.
CAPTION: AND THE GREAT SPIRIT FROWNS.
2) Back in the village the insect-people rejoice as the sun starts to melt the snow. The
children are dancing and the elders look at each other and smile reassured.
CAPTION: BACK IN THE VILLAGE, MIZUBAKI'S PEOPLE REJOICE AS THE
LIGHT RETURNS LIKE A DEARLY DEPARTED BACK FROM THE DEAD.
3) One of the insect-people point to a ragged, one-armed figure that is entering the village
from the wasteland. It is Mizubaki.
CAPTION: BUT THEN MIZUBAKI RETURNS, STAGGERING INTO THE
VILLAGE, WEAKENED AND HALF MAD, WITH WARNINGS OF
APOCALYPSE AND GENOCIDE OF HIS FROSTBITTEN LIPS.
4) Close-up of Mizubaki, raving and ranting and waving his remaining foreleg in the air as
the villagers gather around him, trying to calm him down.
MIZUBAKI: LISTEN,,, LISTEN TO ME. HE DOES EXCIST. THE GREAT SPIRIT
DOES EXCIST....
BUT LISTEN, YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND. HE HATES US ALL!
5) Cut to a trashy kitchen where dirty plates and cutlery are stacked in the sink. A PUNK
GUY with a mohawk and a cowboy west stands in front of an open fridge. The shelves inside
the fridge are overflowing with rotten food, and the punk guy is holding a saucer on which lies
a couple of mushy, molding tomatoes. His face is screwed up in disgust.
PUNK GUY: DUDE, NEXT TIME WE GO OUTTTA TOWN WE GOTTA REMEMBER TO
EMPTY THE FRIDGE FIRST! I SWEAR, THERE MUST BE ENTIRE
CIVILIZATIONS LIVING ON THESE TOMATOES! I'M GONNA HAVE
TO THROW THEM OUT.
END
