Don’t forget Mater Ecclesiae if you will

be away this summer. Our Online Giving is the perfect way to support Mater Ecclesiae while you are

away enjoying your vacation.

In Honor of Our Lady’s Assumption, Mater Ecclesiae Will Celebrate the 17th Annual

Solemn High Mass of The Assumption

In Thanksgiving for The Founding of Mater Ecclesiae

The Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

August 15, 2017 7:00 PM

This Choral Mass is a beautiful demonstration of our beloved Catholic Heritage and our devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ

Campaign to Run from Mother’s Day to Father’s Day

The annual Knights of Columbus pro-life fundraiser will kick off on Mother’s Day weekend with the distribution of empty baby bottles. Parishioners are asked to return them, filled with cash or checks on Father’s Day weekend.

Donations will be given to a local pregnancy resource center. Last year parishioners donated over $1,000 to benefit Good Counsel Home/SJ for pregnant women and their children who are homeless.

So as we celebrate these two holidays and honor the mothers and fathers in our lives, let’s also remember those parents who reject the temptation of abortion and now need our support as they choose life for their babies.

LESSON TWENTY-SIXTH:

On Matrimony

Q. 1011. Can a Christian man and woman be united in lawful marriage in any other way than by the Sacrament of Matrimony?

A. A Christian man and woman cannot be united in lawful marriage in any other way than by the Sacrament of Matrimony, because Christ raised marriage to the dignity of a sacrament.

Q. 1012. Were, then, all marriages before the coming of Christ unlawful and invalid?

A. All marriages before the coming of Christ were not unlawful and invalid. They were both lawful and valid when the persons contracting them followed the dictates of their conscience and the laws of God as they knew them; but such marriages were only contracts. Through their evil inclinations many forgot or neglected the true character of marriage till Our Lord restored it to its former unity and purity.

Q. 1013. What do we mean by impediments to marriage?

A. By impediments to marriage we mean certain restrictions, imposed by the law of God or of the Church, that render the marriage invalid or unlawful when they are violated in entering into it. These restrictions regard age, health, relationship, intention, religion and other matters affecting the good of the Sacrament.

DRESS CODE We want to foster the greatest reverence and respect for Our Lord at Mater Ecclesiae. Our attire is an outward expression of our love for the Lord and shows how important He is to us. It is also a sign of our respect for the House of God. Therefore, one should always wear their “Sunday Best” to Mass: modesty, good taste and common sense should prevail. Accordingly, the following rules apply:

• NO SHORTS, EVER, FOR MEN, WOMEN OR CHILDREN.

• Women: No revealing clothing, low necklines, short skirts or bare midriffs. Please dress modestly with dignity and self-respect. We suggest that women wear a head covering.

• Men: No tattered, soiled work clothes, old jeans or gym clothes. Please wear “business or business casual attire” to set a good example for our young men and boys.
