The brickwork calculations for this week are similar to week 2. Single skin of clay common Brickwork for render with a 1:0:5 mortar mix There are however a few extra item we need to remember to cost.

For our Plan we need to remember a few things when calculating brickwork. We have so far quoted to the underside of bearer so there is a 200mm area
under panels not yet quoted for.

The garage presents it own problems so far we quoted to underside of slab so we need to allow from there up.

• We have already quoted up to underside of bearer, and brick ties are Included. All other Brickwork items will need to be included

• If the plan had a ground floor slab, it will need to be slightly adjusted • to what was quoted for the Timber floor.

When calculating brickwork we are only doing exterior cladding so for the purpose of the exercise only calculate single skin brickwork Garage door is 2400 high Don’t not allow for engaged piers in the garage Use sliding window sizes

Other places that could require flashings on a dwelling. Over window heads without Eave protection Floor height between floor levels
Remember to leave weepholes where ever a flashing is installed
Remember to allow for the Galvanised steel lintel over the garage doors

Plans are rarely perfect, particularly on custom designed dwellings. One particular problem is the finish between the weatherboards and the Brickwork detail. But we will save this problem for another exercise in a couple of weeks time.

Weatherboards are the only external cladding on the granny flat. Our Unit rate is given in m² - be careful with pitched gable ends and remember how to average the sizes to get an wall height.
