What’s This All About?

• Extension and Revitalization Committee has completed its evaluation of current status

• Parishes have been identified for new Conferences and priorities defined

• Existing Conferences have been identified for revitalization and priorities defined

• It is now time to piece together a five-year plan for both extension and revitalization

• The plan entails knowing who is targeted, how long the process takes, and what resources are available

Extension/Revitalization – Whose Responsibility?

Let’s go back to the prior presentation and identify “who” is doing this work: Region, ADC or DC• Is there an SVdP (Arch)Diocesan Council (ADC)? If “no” then

the responsibility goes to the appropriate District Council• Is there an SVdP District Council (DC)? If “no” then the

responsibility goes to the Region because new Conferences will be Isolated until a DC is formed

• In some (Arch)Diocesan Councils, the ADC is responsible for building new Conferences

• In some (Arch)Diocesan Councils, each District Council is responsible for building new Conferences

• It is important to understand who will be responsible for this extension effort

Extension – Region – Establishing the Goal

• A minimal objective for extension is forming one new Conference each year in each Council

• For Region, how many Dioceses will be approached? • How many parishes in each Diocese?• Are sufficient resources available to start one

Conference per year in each Diocese? • Review National’s Model Extension Plan – This is a

model and may be adjusted to fit the Region or Diocese• Knowing that it takes six months to one year of training

and follow-up to establish a properly formed Conference, how many new Conferences can be formed each year?

Extension – Region – Establishing the Goal

• Be realistic and not over ambitious• Build the five-year extension plan – list the candidate parishes

in the order you want to approach them and set the time table• Remember: we are forming Conferences – not stores or special

works – they can come later• Fold into the plan the forming of a District Council• Although Part III of the Rule allows for a minimum of three (3)

Conferences in a DC, we are striving to follow the CGI requirement of five (5)

• Remember that a five-year plan is a moving target – if it turns out that one parish is not ready for a Conference, adjust the plan for other candidate parishes

Extension – (Arch)Diocesan Council – Establishing the Goal

• A minimal objective for extension is forming one new Conference each year in each Council

• Is the ADC providing the extension resources and effort for all of its District Councils? If not, then each District Council must build its own plan (move forward in this presentation to Establishing the Goal for the District Council)

• How many parishes are in the Diocese?• Are sufficient resources available to start one new

Conference per year in each District Council area (this should be the goal)?

• Review National’s Model Extension Plan – This is a model and may be adjusted to fit the ADC

Extension – (Arch)Diocesan Council – Establishing the Goal

Extension – (Arch)Diocesan Council – Establishing the Goal

• Fold into the plan the forming of a District Council where needed. According to Part III of The Rule, DCs should have no more than 12 Conferences.

• Although Part III of The Rule allows for a minimum of three (3) Conferences in a DC, we are striving to follow the CGI requirement of five (5)

• Remember that a five-year plan is a moving target – if it turns out that one parish is not ready for a Conference, adjust the plan for other candidate parishes

Extension – District Council – Establishing the Goal

• A minimal objective for extension is forming one new Conference each year in each Council

• Each District Council must build its own five-year plan for starting new Conferences

• How many parishes are in the District boundaries?• Are sufficient resources available to start one new

Conference per year in the District Council area (this should be the minimal goal)?

• Review National’s Model Extension Plan – This is a model and may be adjusted to fit the DC

Extension – District Council – Establishing the Goal

• Knowing that it takes six months to one year of training and follow-up to establish a properly formed Conference, how many new Conferences can be formed each year?

• Be realistic and not over ambitious (if there are 10 parishes in the District with no Conference and you don’t have resources to start 10 new Conferences, set the goal to fit what you can do)

• Build the five-year extension plan – list the candidate parishes in the order you want to approach them and set the time table

• Remember: we are forming Conferences – not stores or special works – they can come later

• According to Part III of The Rule, DCs should have no more than 12 Conferences. Fold into the plan the forming of another District Council if this is needed.

Extension – Special Considerations

Make sure your Extension Team includes SVdP Members who can invite people based on special considerations• Parishes that have dominant diverse populations

(Hispanic, Black, Asian, Native American, etc.)?• Parishes that have language dominance other than

English (Spanish, Korean, etc.)?• Forming Youth (under 19) Conferences?• Forming Young Adult (19 to 39) Conferences?

Revitalization - Conferences• The decision has already been made of which

Conferences need to be revitalized• The priorities have been set• Some Conferences will be best served with

recruiting new members• Some Conferences will be best served with

formation services• Some Conferences will be best served with

both recruiting and formation

Revitalization - Conferences• A minimal objective for revitalization is revitalizing one

Conference each year in each Council• As with Extension, don’t be over ambitious – be

realistic as to what you can accomplish• Build the five-year revitalization plan – list the

Conferences in the order you want to approach them and set the time table

• Remember that a five-year plan is a moving target – if it turns out that one Conference is not ready or one takes longer than expected, adjust the plan accordingly

Revitalization – District Councils• Where District Councils (DC) need to be revitalized, this is the

work of the ADC or the Region• Although Part III of the Rule allows for three (3) Conferences in a

DC, we are striving to follow the CGI requirement of five (5)• There is also the recommendation in Part III of The Rule that a

DC should not have more than 12 Conferences• Once again, the determination must be made to start a new DC

or revitalize an existing one• There may be a Diocese where both are needed or the

revitalization of one DC requires the building of another• Build this into the five-year plan and set the time frame• Keep in mind that the existing Conferences are an intimate part

of this process

Revitalization – (Arch)Diocesan Councils

• Where (Arch)Diocesan Councils (ADC) need to be revitalized, this is the work of the Region

• Keep in mind that the existing DCs and Conferences are an intimate part of this process

• The time frame to revitalize an ADC may be extensive

• Fold this into the overall five-year plan of the Region

What’s Next?

• Once the five-year plans for both extension and revitalization are completed, inform both the Regional and National Extension/Revitalization Committees

• The next three steps are essential1. Put the plan into action2. Monitor and evaluate your progress3. Report your progress at all DC, ADC, and Region

meetings• Formally report your progress annually to the Regional

and National Extension/Revitalization Committees
