EXTENSION AND OUTREACH PROGRAM

2015-16

1.Checkdam Construction :

A Checkdam was built across the river of Punnappuzha, Moothedam Panchayat, Varakod Kadavu for the purpose of water conservation in the

locality during the summer season. There will be acute shortage of water

even for drinking and daily use. This check dam was built across the river in

30meters length and a depth of 1.25meters with a thickness of 2.5meters.

2.ARIVAKAM

Setting up of a library in the nearby Vidya Poshini UP Schoolat

Vilayil.There was a campaign called "One book, One Student'", i.c., each

student was asked to donate one at least one book to the library which will

be helpful to enlarge the horizons of the enlightenment of young brothers in

the school.

3.NATURAL CAMP@ Kallumukku Foest Range. Sulthan

Bathery: This was a two-day camp. 40 NSS volunteers

attended the camp. A lovely trekking was arranged by the

forest authorities. It was very helpful to know the nature

and wild animals.

A mega project was undertaken by the volunteers. It was named as "Kannanu Oru Veedu", for which the students andtheprogramme officer had an intense time of work in both raising the fund and doing the manual works to build a home fora physically challenged man named Kannan.

3.ORGANIC FARMING Beans Cultivation in 16 acres of

As the part of the Haritha Keralam, the Kudumbasree Officer of Elamkavu ward in the Cheekod Panchayat requested the help of our volunteers. It was a mega project of organic farming in 16 acres of land. 50 energetic volunteers agreed to take up the task they leveled the land, arranged soil beds, beans seeds were inserted in the beds with all its perfections.

4. NIRAVAYAR

"No man should starve" was the motto behind this program.

Food kits were provided to cach family of the adopted village,

Vilayil. The fund was raised in a peculiar way. Each and every student in the college should contribute One Rupee in each day

into the special collection boxes. By the end of the month, the

collection was accumulated.

5. House building activities for Smt. Fathima Kutty Cheekod Panchayat authorities approached the programme officer with a request to help the house building activities of an old lady, Smt. Fathima Kutty, whose husband died one decade ago. It was a Government sponsored project and hence they

requested manpower for trenging and foundation work.

6. YES, WE CARE November 14 is observed as the Children's Day in India. As a

part of this, the NSS volunteers visited the Love Shore special school at Edavannappara. There mentally challenged children

deserves the specialcare and attention of society. The members

spent one full day with the teachers and children in this school.

7. RENOVATION OF GOVT. NURSERY SCHOOL As a part of the State Level program Balolsavam, to encourage the children in the age group of 2-5 to perform their inborn skills, initiated by the Ministry of Education on March 4, 2017, Anganavadi Renovation was work was carried out in the Vilayil Nursery School.

11. Medicine distribution for palliative patients Vazhakkad Palliative clinic is one of the best Palliative clinics in the region and hence, the medicines collected by the volunteers were handed over to the Palliative representatives.

This day is observed to make an active campaign against this transmiting disease. A red ribbon rally was organized. 14. Santhwanam Palliative Camp

Around 80 NSS Volunteers participated in the paliative camp

held at Vidya Poshini UP School on 24-12-2016. The Camp was

Panchayat). As part of the camp, there were many cultural

activities conducted by the students and other palliative

volunteers.

7 2. Street Drama on World Aids Day

The NSS Unit conducted a street drama to gain the attention of the public on Aids day. The play was

performed in Kondotty and Edavannappara towns to deliver awareness for the public that "Prevention is better

than Cure". To perform the drama, schools on the outskirts

of college such as GHSS Kizhisseri and Cheekod Higher Secondary School, were selected and arranged. A team of 25 volunteers, turned artists, made this programme a grand Success.

The idea of distribution of books emerged when the NSS

Unit attended a Natural Camp at Kallumukku Forest Range

of Wayanad District. The camp _ite was adjacent toan

adivasi colony where more than 25 students were going to

schools. More than 700 books were distributed to the

library at the Kullumukku Colony, which now pose to be a

treasure of knowledge for the tribal children.

4. YES, WE CARE A Visit to Love Shore Pannicode

As a part of the Children's Day Celebration, the NSS unit

organized a visit to the Love Shore Special School for

mentally-challenged, at Pannicode. The students in the

school were inspired to performitems like, dance, oppana,

elocution etc. The volunteers and the staff helped the

students to come forward with their skills arranged a feast

for the students

Pannicode Love Shore, an educational institution for mentally challenged students, organized their Annual Day

as a grand function on 10-01-2018. 50 NSS volunteers were

organized and volunteered the entire program.

6. M/R Vaccine Survey

In accordance with the prevention steps for Meascles and

Rubella, the District Collector, Sri. Amit Meena and the District

Health Department organized to conduct a Vaccination survey in

Malappuram with the help of our NSS Unit. The whole survey

was completed within two days collecting details from almost

100 families in the surrounding villages and produced a detailed

list of the families which did not took the vaccine.

7. Pariraksha Care at Omano0or

The Pariraksha camp organized by the Omanoor Palliative Care Unit was volunteered by the NSS Unit of the College. More than 100 patients were taken care in the two-day camp, in which the volunteers adopted the patients and helped them in almost everything.

8. Pariraksha Care at VPAUP School This was a one-day camp, in which almost 50 patients, who

were bed-ridden for years, were included. Though the

program was organized by the Pariraksha Supporting

Committee of the VPAUP School Management, the entire program was conducted with the coordination of the NSS

unit.

Under the coordination of program officers, a grand camp was conducted at Wayanad, in which five NSS units from

different colleges participated. Among the 250 volunteers, the NSS unit from the Govt. College Kondotty actively indulged in

the camp activities. The camp was inaugurated by the famous

film actor Mr. Abu Saleem.

2. A House for Beeranikka The beneficiary of second house one Mr. Beeran 70 years old

4. House for flood victims In August 2018, House project for Mr. Mohammed Eranhikkal who was a resident of Chaliyar Panchayat. His house was totally devastated in this natural calamity.NSS Unit visited the place as part of flood relief activity and decided to help the affected family.

5. Nature Camp at Sulthan Bathery Nature camp of college NSS Unit for the year 2019 was held in Sulthan Bathery in the month of February 2019. In the course of Camp activities, had undertaken some works

in tribal colonies. The unit members noted that the

construction work of two tribal houses were started, but it was not completed. Our members finished the excavation

and foundation works.

6. Flood Relief Activities It was in August 2018, a diverting flood strangled the state of

Kerala and around 400 persons lost their life apart from the long

livelihood of thousands of families. flood relief activities were

carried out in Chaliyar panchayat in Malappuram district on a

war footing basis in areas like Moolepadam,Edavanna,

Namboothirippotti etc.

7. Cleaning Drive with Flood Victims

The flood stricken areas in the Nilambur-Chakkalakuth

region left hundreds of houses uninhabitable. These houses

were renowed and cleansed by the NSS unit as the part of

the Clean Drive mission.

8. Flood Relief activities in Vazhakkad

Flood relief activities were carried out in Vazhakkad areas.

Family quarters where more than 20 families were left

homeless, was made suitable for living. Cleaning operation

was done in full swing in this area as this town is located

near the college.

NSS volunteers gathered and distributed food kits

containing rice, sugar, tea powder, and other essentials. These kits, each being worthy of Rs.500 was provided to more than hundred flood-stricken adivasi residents at

Ambumala, Chokkad 40 Cent Colony, Karulai- Nedumkayam Colony, Pookkottumadam-Nelliampadam Colony and Chettippadam Colony.

11. Farming at flood affected Areas In the flood which devastated agricultural fields, thousandsof hectors of agricultural holdings damaged. The land got spoiled with mud and other wastages. As part of Navakerala mission, it was decided to implement a project named "retain, rebuild and rehabitate". As part this,NSS unit undertook agricultural activities in coordination with kairali woman collective under the supervision of Nediyirupp Krishi Bhavan. Coconut, tapioca, Sweet potato, ginger, turmeric farming were the main crops.

12. GEOTAG SURVEY

This survey was conducted by NSS volunteers using mobile

app. Students has to approach each and every flood affected

house for collecting all related informations. Survey was

conducted in edavannappara, vazhakkad in vazhakkad

panchayat, amboothippotti, idivenna, moolepadam in chaliyar

panchayat, odakkayam, maithri in oorngattiri panchayat.

14. KAKKADAM POYIL ROAD RE BUILDING

Kakkadam poyil to mathilmoola road got badly damaged

due toserve rainfalland land slide. The traffic and flood

relief operations were almost impossible due to the road

block. NSS volunteers decided to re build the road by

removing the big stones, timber logs etc. from the path

ways.

15. ARRANGEMENT OF RUBEENA'S MARRIAGE As the relief operations are going on, it was heard that the

marriage ceremony of a young girl was cancelled. It was

supposed to taken place on 18 August 2018. The entire in

Namboothirippotti was discussing the bad luck of the

young girl in the village as the entire house got hit by flood

along with cash and ornaments kept by the family.

At this juncture, NSS volunteers rose to the occasion and

decided to arrange the previously cancelled marriage at any cost. To rise a fund of Two lakh was Hercules's task during

those days. Marriage was fix to 26th August 2018.

16. DISTRIBUTION OF COWS TO FL0OD VICTIMS

Sepember23rd 2018 a function was arranged to

compensate the financial lose of the farmers consequent

upon the flood .Many of them were making their life by

selling cow milk .But they lose all the means of life in the

17. Well for Athul's Home

This family, living at Pulikkal, was paying Rs.1000 per

week for one tank water. It was extremely unbearable for

the family who were struggling meet both the ends. The

NSS unit determinedto dig a well for the needy,

approximately at the expense of RS. 75,000, the volunteers

managed to bring out water for the family.

18. Construction of Check Dam Construction of third Check Dam under NSS, started on 2d December 2018 as part of the special camp, helped a great extent to raise the storage level of water in the area. This locality is congested in small scale farming. Each sand dam has a potential to provide a clean supply of water up to 1100 people, animals, three nurseries and vegetable plots.

19. Canal Cleaning

Canal Cleaning at Cheriyaparambuwas a three days experience. Around 50 volunteers took part in this activity. Sri. Alavi Haji, the PTA President, inaugurated the programme, which the native people appreciated. The programme, further helped in distributing clean water into 80 households.

20. VOICE BANK RELEASE FOR BLINDS

It was a different experience to arrange programme for the

physically challenged brothers and sisters. making audio CDs of

short stories, poems and novels to use for the community whose

vision is challenged was cosponsored by Malappuram district

NSS unit and kerala blind federations. The publications of work

was done on june 6, 2018 by TV Ibrahim MLA.

21. Providing scribes for Blind students NSS Volunteers cameforward as scribes to assist the blind students in appearing for competitive examination. the programme was organised by pulikkal Ability foundationfor the disabled people.

22. Bamboo Planting on Environment Day As a gesture and awareness programmes to protect our environment, Bamboo plants were planted under the guidance of district NSS coordinator Sameera MP. Besides planting saplings around the college playground, seedlings of herbal plants were distributed to the students and staff. In addition to this, seedlings were provided to the neighbouring households.

27. PARIRAKSHA' PALIATIVE PATIENTS FAMILY

MEETUP

The camp organized by the Pariraksha Supporting Committee under the Omanoor Palliative Care Unit on 14-02-2019, was

made into a house of love and care by the NSS volunteers Almost 100 patients who were bedridden for years finds the

camp to be refreshing and joyful when the volunteers

managed to perform in the stage. The Camp Organizing committee passed on their regards and gratitude to the college

mentioning that the volunteers had done a great deal in the

success of the camp.

NSS volunteers were divided into squads and driven into various localities of the Cheekode panchayat. Each squad surveyed every households. They ensured the hygienic surroundings to the households. Places where mosquitoes likely to breed were directed to clean and made dry. The survey dealt with the importance of keeping the surroundings clean and resisting contagious diseases. A complete awareness has been given to the households in relieving of the garbage and trash.

29. BLOOD DONATION CAMP On 23td October 2018, the College NSS unit, associated

with the Students union conducted a blood donation camp. The camp was inaugurated by Prof. Mubarak, lecturer, Departmentof Urdu. The camp was organized with the co-

operation of Govt. Medical College Manjeri, and more than 60 units of blood has been donated.

30. Medicinal Plantation at UP School The NSS unit came forward in setting up a medicinal plantation cum garden in the upper primary school adjacent to the college campus. Guided by the Programme Officer, the volunteers were able to create a garden, fenced perfectly. More than 20 medicinal plants have been protected and nourished under the garden.

31. VPAUP School Cleaning The VPAUP School, an upper primary school, adjacent to the college campus was cleaned and made plastic-free. This was an initiation taken by NSS volunteers to express their keen interest in the removal of the environment degrading factors from the surroundings.

32. AIDS Day Convention The message "Know Your Status" has been passed on to

the public by organizing an awareness rally about AIDS from the college campus to the nearest town of Vilay il. A convention was arranged at Vilayil, which was inaugurated by Sri. K P Say eed, Checkode Panchayat President.

33. Hand For the Harvesting Festival Through this program, the NSS volunteers were becoming a part of the traditional, social and cultural customs of Malabar, based on the Harvesting Festival. In the paddy fields of Smt. Fathimakutty and Sri. Muhammed, one acre each, the volunteers took part in the process of harvesting.

34. Mega Medical Camp A mega-medical camp was organized in the college campus for the welfare of the students and staff. The camp was held

on behalf of the Vilayil Public Health Centre. More than 400

students appeared for the camp, evaluated Blood Pressure,

Glucose Level, and Blood Group Determining.

35. Volunteership in Disability Center Nss Volunteers took the opportunity to volunteer the

Ability Foundation, a special school for disabled children.

The NSS unit mingled with the children in the school,

performing certain events and even practiced football.

The institution had a team for football, in which the

players are all ear-impaired.

36. CHILDREN'S DAY CELEBRATION

On 14 th november 2018 the National Service scheme

37. Vimukthi Mission- Antidrug Drive

The District Vimukthi Mission, sponsored by the Kerala

Excise Department, in association with Manjeri Municipality

and the District NSS Cordiantor, hosted an anti-drug

campaign on July 26 as a part of the Anti-Drug Day. The

campaign was initiated with the starting of the Marathon race

in which many volunteers all around the participated. An

38. Palliative Pariraksha Camp at Maprom The Palliative Care unit at Maprom, with the help of the college NSS Unit and local club bodies, organized a two-day Pariraksha Camp for the bed-ridden palliative patients. The camp was co-ordinated with the guidelines of the College Principal and the Program Officer. More than 50 bed-ridden patients participated in the camp, volunteered by 100 volunteers.

volunteers helped the chlorination of all the wells in thenearby,

houses of the Keezhuparamba Panchayath under the district
