• Started in Germany- group of artists that passionately believe art should be more about expressing feelings than images of the real world.

• Two groups: Die Brüke, Der Blaue Reiter.

• Founded by Wassily Kandinsky ( after his “Blue Rider” painting). Focused more on color

• Kandinsky was the first to totally abandon any object representation in his work- the first abstract art.
