Language ConceptsNote on Pronunciation

Memorize the vowels first; you can pronounce most words by just knowing the vowels.

Remember the rhyme: ”¡A,E,I,O,U el burro sabe más que tú!” H is always silent in Spanish. The letters B and V are identical in sound. Y is both a consonant and a vowel. When it stands alone or at the end of a

word, it is pronounced just like the Spanish “i” (y, hay). In all other cases, y is a consonant, just like the English “y” (yo, mayonesa).

El Alfabetoa a (short a) j jota r air-ayb bay k ka rr airrayc say l l-ay s s-aych chay ll ay-yay t tayd day m m-ay u ooe a (long a) n n-ay v bayf f-ay ñ ñ-ay w dubla bayg hay o o x a keessh a-chay p pay y e griegai ee q ku z z-ayta

There are many differences between the English and Spanish language.1. Give an example of a word that is capitalized in English but not in Spanish. 2. Give an example of punctuation that is different in Spanish and English. 3. Write a Spanish word that has a “tilde” (ñ) in it. 4. Write 2 words that have accent marks. (Are accent marks always over the same letter? Why are accent marks used?) 5. Word order is different in Spanish than in English, for example, how do you say “the white cat” or “the black dog” in Spanish?
