History of the model* By 1920 Harley-Davidson was the largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world. 1922 saw the
introduction of the legendary 74ci (1200) Harley V-Twin in the FD models, the JD also being
introduced in 1920. These 'Seventy-Four' bikes are still revered today as the motor that brought Harley-
Davidson its true 'big-banger' reputation.
By 1920, Harley-Davidson was the largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world, with 28,189 machines
produced, and dealers in 67 countries. In 1921, a Harley-Davidson, ridden by Otto Walker, was the first
motorcycle ever to win a race at an average speed of over 100 mph (160 km/h).
During the 1920s, several improvements were put in place, such as a new 74 cubic inch (1,212.6 cc) V-
Twin, introduced in 1922, and the "Teardrop" gas tank in 1925. A front brake was added in 1928
although notably only on the J/JD models.*
Our bike in detail The Harley Davidson JD 1200 offered here, is one of few motorcycle combinations of that type on the
market. It belongs to an extensive collection of historic motorcycles and presents itself in an
extraordinary good condition.
The present owner has taken part at several historic bike events – always travelling there by bike and not
by trailer, of course.
The motorcycle comes with new German MOT.
