Exploring the Potential of Graphene

Exploring the Potential of Graphene
Large projects in the field of future and emerging technolo-gies are being designed and discussed in Europe under the heading flagship projects. One of them suggests a broad in-vestigation of Graphene, its properties and the various appli-cations that can be expected from this promising new mate-rial.
Very large research programmes binding significant human and financial resources raise a number of questions that must be discussed within the scientific community at large. Only a broad discussion and sufficient understanding of the context can convince both decision makers and the scientific com-munity that a given major enterprise is the suitable vehicle to reach the ambitious goals and deserves the extraordinary support that is envisaged.
In view of these arguments, the conference aims to inform the Swiss scientific community on some of the extraordinary physical and chemical properties of Graphene and about the planned EU initiative. It should provide a platform to discuss both general and specific questions concerning the potential, ambitions and trends of future Graphene research and help to form an opinion on the priority of a Swiss participation in such a programme. Among the speakers are internationally re-nowned experts and Swiss researchers already involved in studies of Graphene and its potential for applications.
The organisers welcome scientists from all fields, profession-als from industry, journalists and representatives from fund-ing agencies and federal authorities. The conference will be held in English.
