Page 1: Explantions for my choices

On the “XXL” magazine the main image is of two male

music artists therefore I adopted the concept of having

two models on my front cover rather than one as it creates

a greater effect on the audience not having one but to two

artists resembling the dominance of the images on the

“XXL” page. By positioning the images in the middle of the

magazine will draw their attention to them through their

costume design and the use of the positioning theory. As I

am using two images I would want at least one of them to

be near enough to the optical centre as this is naturally

where the eye looks when looking at a magazine and I

would want the models to be identified in this way in spite

of the other things like cover lines which would semi

dominate the page.

In relation to my research my audience requested for some

features of culture to be incorporated to the magazine

therefore this approach would be taken into consideration

when finding the costumes for the models involving

cultural colours such as orange, yellow, green and red.

The image will be taken at a high angle in relation with a

tag line of which the quote, “started from the bottom now

we’re here” conveys the idea of the image being taken at a

high angle, their lower body is made to look smaller but

the upper part of their body is much bigger and their facial

features are more defined representing their success

“starting from the bottom” and working its way up.

The conventions of the magazine I am following is “XXL-

Sude Knight.” By following the conventions of this

magazine I was able to place my masthead in a place

where it will be visible and will attract the audience very

easily. With a great use of font and contrasting colours for

it to alarm as much as it does on the “XXL” magazine.

This will provide page advertisements of facts, interviews

(life story), party events, new releases and concert

performances.

Page 2: Explantions for my choices

I chose this plan for the structure of my magazine for the reason I would be able to attract my audience through the images used. During my research conducted I found that the majority disliked reading magazines, therefore appealing to them through the use of vibrant images was to would grab their attention to the importance of the messages and advertisement as demonstrated on the magazine found there is a lot of image space which would go with my intention of attracting my audience.

I will incorporate some cover lines to the left hand side of the page for my audience to use this to navigate around the page; within the research I conducted I found that my audience requested for things like interviews showing their interest in celebrity life styles. By making this section of the magazine a highlighted point contrasting colours used to emphasising its significance of page navigation.

The date of this magazine has been made quite big on the top left hand corner of the page, therefore I chose this as the date on my front page isn’t as visible as it is on the contents page.

The reason I chose this layout of the contents page was because of the fact that the masthead had also been incorporated in the contests page a written representation of the artefact of the magazine showing that it is all part of one magazine. The positioning and enlargement of the masthead promotes the reinforcement of the name of the magazine ‘Rootz’.

The advertisement column on the left will be used to promote concert events and getting the audience to so go on the website.

A mixture of colloquial language and formal language will been used which was requested during the research as they were both scored 50/50 the reason I am doing this is so that my audience feels acknowledged with their style of speech to be familiar with , to feel as though they are on the same level, having to relate with in terms of it being a young peoples magazine; party reviews from people around the same age. Due to the maturity of the age group 16+ the magazine will have no question headings as this would beneficial to younger audiences therefore the more text enhancing the thought of their level of maturity and intellect.

Facts box Audience that like magazines for their informational purpose, their requirements will be fulfilled, as there is lots of textual space on the double page spread for the content to be written that will surround the page and will be integrated around the images.

The text of the main headline will be graffiti like as it represents the youth as a whole of being young and frivolous

The images used are to represent young people in the way that they dress adding a small element of cultural print to their attire.
