Exodus 14Despite their “official”

freedom beginning after the Passover,

the true birth of the nation of Israel

occurred through the waters of the Red Sea with Moses serving

as the ‘midwife.’

Exodus 15: 1-21After their freedom from the clutches

of Egyptian slavery sets in, the people are led by Moses & Miriam in a spontaneous

act of worship and celebration.

In “Leaving Egypt,” author Chuck DeGroat

compares the Israelites’ behavior immediately

after they are freed from Egypt to that of a newborn baby.

They insistently cry out to God

for every basic need.

Exodus 15: 22-27Exodus 17: 1-7

Israel doubted God would provide the water they needed to survive

their journeys in the desert wastelands,

but He did in natural ways and in miraculous ways.

Exodus 16Israel doubted God

would provide the food they needed to survive.God provided morning

rations of manna (bread from heaven) and evening supplies of quail for meat.This daily provision did not

happen on the 7th Day.

Exodus 19: 1-8

“I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself.”

(Deuteronomy 32: 10-12)

God uses this startling imagery of Himself as an eagle guiding Israel as an eaglet to

fly away from the “nest” of Egypt because He has bigger & better plans for them.

God reaffirms the previous covenant with Abraham, but He states that He is

re-defining it in light of the size of the

nation and adding more expectations in light of what the people have seen.
