Assuaging fears of losingbenefits under the PublicProvident Fund (PPF) schemewith proposed changes in theBudget, Economic AffairsSecretary S C Garg said existingand new PPF deposits wouldcontinue to have protection frombeing attached.
"PPF deposits enjoy protec-tion from being attached. Allexisting protections have been
saved while consolidating PPFAct under proposedGovernment Savings PromotionAct," he said in a tweet.
In Finance Bill 2018-19, aprovision has been made torepeal the Public ProvidentFund Act, 1968.
As a result, all small savingsschemes including PPF will nowbe covered under theGovernment Savings Banks Act,
1873.The schemes include Post
Office Savings Account,National Savings Monthly
Income (Account), NationalSavings Recurring Deposit andSukanya Samriddhi Account.(PTI)
