Management of Excavated Material•A significant quantity of excavated material arises from the cuttings within Buckinghamshire. The majority of the excavated material will be beneficially re-used as engineering fill or mitigation earthworks up and down the HS2 route.

• HS2 Ltd has developed a route wide Materials Management Strategy which has identified where and how the excavated material will be transported.

• Where reasonably practicable and cost effective to do so, excavated materials will be transported along the HS2 construction corridor via a haul road.

•There are a number of locations where the Proposed Scheme is intersected by existing major infrastructure, such as trunk roads, railways and major watercourses, which act as a ‘blocker’ to the haul road (these ‘blockers’ may be removed once the structure spanning the intersecting feature is available for use.

• In other locations the distance site haulage vehicles would have to travel along a haul road would be uneconomic or construction of the haul road itself would have programme implications.

• At points where the excavated material is transferred from site haulage vehicles to road haulage vehicles is known as a ‘road head’

• The following plans show the ‘road heads’, public roads that have been identified for the movement of excavated materials and the indicative route for the haul road.
