With area courses blanketed in snow, it seems hard to imagine that we'll ever see greens again, but spring will come early this year -- we promise! Saturday, March 14, in fact, we'll be gathering at the Esplanade Lakes in Downers Grove to reconnect with golfing bud-dies, hear from an inspiring speaker, and get ready for golf season to return to Chicagoland. Last year we had 200 members and prospec-tive members at the event, in the beautiful Esplanade Lakes ballroom at the Sara Lee Corporation headquarters. We would like to see a similarly great turnout this year and encourage each current member to bring one new person to learn about EWGA at the new and prospective members meeting.
Date: March 14, 2009 Time: Cost: 8:30 am New Member Registration $30 per person in advance 9:00 am Open Registration $35 per person at the door (very limited availability and must contact kick-off chair) Location: Esplanade Lakes, 3500 Lacey Road, Downers Grove, IL (Sara Lee building)
Agenda:
8:30 am New Member Registration and Orientation 8:45 - 9:15 am New and Prospective Member Orientation Meeting
9:00 am Current Member & Guest Check-in 9:00 to 9:45 am League and Events Sign-up, Chapter Info, Vendor demos, events
9:45 to 11:30 am Brunch and Program Presentation
11:30 am Continuation of League and Events Sign-up, Chapter Info, and Vendor demos
Our Very Special Guest Speaker:
Margaret Stender has been a successful business woman and a successful basketball player, so it came to no surprise when she was named President and CEO of the Chicago Sky and got to put the combination to work. Stender brings to the floor 21 years of experience in marketing and business management; some of her recent work has been as the President of the Juice Drink division for PepsiCo, President for Quaker Oats ready-to-eat cereal division, Senior Vice President and General Manager of consumer travel solutions for Rand Mcnally & Co, and Vice President of marketing for Ameritech New Media. Margaret will share with us her insights about the lessons to be found in sports that apply to business and careers.
If you have any questions please contact Robin Wagner
Join us to catch up with old friends, and plan your 2007 season!

Letter from the President
The action never stops behind the scenes at EWGA. We are al-
ready busy planning the events for this year. First on the list was the ‘Think Golf and
Stay Warm” year end party at Capri in Oakbrook. The event was a change for us, new
date, new location, and it was a very nice evening. Thanks to all the ladies that worked
to make that event a success. Special thanks to member Lauren Milantoni for planning
this year’s party for us. Lauren answered the call for volunteerism (All 4 one/ One 4 all)
and did a great job! At the very next board meeting we began reviewing how the event
went and what we should improve for next year. Were you there? If you have any feed-
back or ideas, we want to hear it, please send an e-mail with your thoughts.
Next event on the list is the Kick Off. As I announced in my first ‘Letter from the Pres’ we
have a great speaker planned, more vendors than last year, and improvements based on
your feedback from last year. See the article below for more details. I hope to see you
there.
Of course, events aren’t all we’ve been doing this winter. There has also been golf!
We’ve had some group lessons over at White Pines. And league play began the first
week of January over at Top Golf! White Pines is and indoor dome, so the weather has
not been an issue. Top Golf is partially outside but it is great practice, and surprisingly
warm under the heaters! Those participating are all having a great time. Sadly, atten-
dance has been less than we expected at both locations, again if you have feedback we
would love to hear it.
Plans for the remaining of the year are also under way. We have to have most dates set
in order to get them into our literature and onto the web site. The 2009 brochure listing
all leagues and events is at the printer now, and will be ready for us to hand out at both
of this year’s golf shows: Schaumburg February 6-8 and Rosemont Feb 27, 28, Mar 1st.
EWGA members will be working in the Solheim Cup booth and promoting the EWGA,
stop by and say hello. There are still some time slots open to work the shows (All 4 one/
One 4 all) let me know if you are interested.
As you can see things are already moving along for the 2009 season. It’s going to be a
good one and I hope to see you all out at an event soon.
Hit ‘em straight,
Dena

The EWGA National Association Creates a New Strategic Plan, Vision
Statement and Mission Statement: The EWGA Strategic Plan 2009-2013 was developed by the EWGA Board of Directors to ensure
the EWGA remains relevant in the eyes of current members and continues to grow and attract
new members. This process was supported by member feedback and the utilization of golf
industry research to assist in developing our common vision, values and goals for the next five
years. The result of this process included the reinforcement of the key themes: Learn, Play and
Enjoy; a new vision statement; a revised mission statement, the establishment of goals and objectives
and the creation of the five-year plan.
The new vision statement: Enriching the lives of women through the game of golf
The revised mission statement: Connecting women to learn, play, and enjoy golf for business and for fun
Six Key Goals for the 5-Year Strategic Plan: 1. Achieve continuous growth of the EWGA by reaching a membership base of 30,000 members by 2012.
2. Support Chapters by identifying and implementing a sustainable leadership structure to drive mem-bership and
ensure consistent delivery of the EWGA brand promise.
3. Increase the percentage of non-dues revenues from 25% to 35% of the overall revenue base with sustainable
and predictable sources.
4. Advocate for positive change on issues of importance to women golfers.
5. Drive increased member satisfaction and retention by providing key member benefits in the areas of events,
education and leadership development.
6. Create formal programs to elevate EWGA brand awareness in the target membership markets.

CAPTURE THE COIL: HARNESS THE POWER OF AN OLYMPIC SHOT-PUTTER Coach Trevor Broesamle, Santa Barbara, CA
REASON SECRET IS REVEALED: Coiling your body is more than just turning your shoulders. In order to explode from the top, you need to get your left shoulder over the right thigh. CHANGE RECOMMENDED: Picture an Olympic shot-putter in his crouched position, ready to fire. If you mimic some of the basic tenets of that sensation, you're setting yourself up to explode from the top with nearly limitless power. One of the keys to generating this power is your body alignment at the top of your swing. When you reach the top of your backswing, your left shoulder should have worked its way closer to your right hip. In order for this to happen, the right leg has to brace your weight transition and your shoulders have to turn and tilt into a trunk-twisting position. OTHER FACTORS: Careful, you can over-do this coiled position. If your head actually dips on the way back to the top, it's likely you've over-tilted your shoulders in an effort to get coiled. Use a mirror or a partner to ensure your head isn't bobbing like a rubber ducky in a tempest. RESULTS TO ANTICIPATE: Maximizing the coil in your backswing takes the pressure off the hands to do the swing and allows the more powerful parts of your body to contribute to the swing. The added distance from perfecting this move is not only repeatable, but significant. COMMON FALSE STARTS: Some people mistakenly think that just by getting the shoulders turning, the true power of the trunk is being tapped. This is only true if the left shoulders works down and back. Just imaging crunching up the distance
Magazine Renewal Notices As a part of your EWGA membership you receive Golf Digest and Conde Nast Portfolio magazines. You may receive a renewal notice for these magazines if your EWGA membership is due to renew within the next few months. Since these subscriptions are a benefit of your membership, you can ignore these notices as your magazine subscriptions will renew when your EWGA membership is renewed.
