Except ye Repent• (Luke 13:1-5 NKJV) :There were present at

that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. {2} And Jesus answered and said to them, "Do you suppose that these Galileans were worse sinners than all other Galileans, because they suffered such things? {3} "I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.

Except ye Repent• (Luke 13:1-5 NKJV) {4} "Or those eighteen on

whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem? {5} "I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish."

What is repenta

nce? 5

Many think repentance means saying. “I am sorry

for what I have done.”• (2 Cor 7:10 NKJV) For godly sorrow produces

repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.

6

Page 7: Except Ye Repent 1. 2 Except ye Repent (Luke 13:1-5 NKJV) :There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate

What is the sorrow of the world?

There is the flippant “Sorry!” or “I’m sorry.”• One person challenged a friend about his

flippant response. • He admitted that he wasn’t really sorry, it

was just what was expected

7

Real repentance produces a change of life.

•  (John 12:39-40 NKJV) Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again: {40} "He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, Lest they should see with their eyes, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them."

8

Real repentance produces a change of life.

•  (John 12:40 NASB) "HE HAS BLINDED THEIR EYES, AND HE HARDENED THEIR HEART; LEST THEY SEE WITH THEIR EYES, AND PERCEIVE WITH THEIR HEART, AND BE CONVERTED, AND I HEAL THEM."

9

Page 10: Except Ye Repent 1. 2 Except ye Repent (Luke 13:1-5 NKJV) :There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate

Repentance involves conversion and is essential to our salvation.

• (Acts 3:19 NKJV) "Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,

10

Page 11: Except Ye Repent 1. 2 Except ye Repent (Luke 13:1-5 NKJV) :There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate

Some resist the urging of the Lord.

• (Mat 23:37-38 NKJV) "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! {38} "See! Your house is left to you desolate;

12

Page 12: Except Ye Repent 1. 2 Except ye Repent (Luke 13:1-5 NKJV) :There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate

Hardening our hearts, or resisting God’s urging is

not good.• (Rom 2:5-10 NKJV) But in accordance with

your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, {6} who "will render to each one according to his deeds": {7} eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality;

13

Page 13: Except Ye Repent 1. 2 Except ye Repent (Luke 13:1-5 NKJV) :There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate

Hardening our hearts, or resisting God’s urging is

not good.• (Rom 2:5-10 NKJV) {8} but to those who are

self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness; indignation and wrath, {9} tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek; {10} but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

14

God’s patience does not mean God’s approval.

• (2 Pet 3:8-9 NASB) But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. {9} The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.

15

Page 15: Except Ye Repent 1. 2 Except ye Repent (Luke 13:1-5 NKJV) :There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate

Repentance involves being able

to see. 16

Page 16: Except Ye Repent 1. 2 Except ye Repent (Luke 13:1-5 NKJV) :There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate

Isaiah says that their eyes have been blinded that they could not see.

• (John 12:39-40 NKJV) Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again: {40} "He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, Lest they should see with their eyes, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them."

17

Page 17: Except Ye Repent 1. 2 Except ye Repent (Luke 13:1-5 NKJV) :There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate

Paul says that God sends them strong delusions.

•  (2 Th 2:11-12 NKJV) And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, {12} that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

18

The devil blinds men by the things they see and enjoy.

(2 Cor 4:3-5 KJV) But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: {4} In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. {5} For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.

19

Moses could see. He was not confused.

• (Heb 11:24- 27 KJV) By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; {25} Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; {26} Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward.

20

Page 20: Except Ye Repent 1. 2 Except ye Repent (Luke 13:1-5 NKJV) :There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate

Moses could see. He was not confused.

• (Heb 11:24- 27 KJV) {27} By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

I did it my way• And now, the end is here

And so I face the final curtain My friend, I'll say it clear I'll state my case, of which I'm certain I've lived a life that's full I traveled each and ev'ry highway And more, much more than this, I did it my way

22

Page 22: Except Ye Repent 1. 2 Except ye Repent (Luke 13:1-5 NKJV) :There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate

I did it my wayRegrets, I've had a few

But then again, too few to mention I did what I had to do and saw it through without exemption I planned each charted course, each careful step along the byway And more, much more than this, I did it my way

23

Page 23: Except Ye Repent 1. 2 Except ye Repent (Luke 13:1-5 NKJV) :There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate

I did it my wayYes, there were times, I'm sure you knew

When I bit off more than I could chew But through it all, when there was doubt I ate it up and spit it out I faced it all and I stood tall and did it my way

(He’s proud and arrogant!)

24

Page 24: Except Ye Repent 1. 2 Except ye Repent (Luke 13:1-5 NKJV) :There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate

I did it my way• I've loved, I've laughed and cried

I've had my fill, my share of losing And now, as tears subside, I find it all so amusing To think I did all that And may I say, not in a shy way, "Oh, no, oh, no, not me, I did it my way"

25

Page 25: Except Ye Repent 1. 2 Except ye Repent (Luke 13:1-5 NKJV) :There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate

I did it my way• For what is a man, what has he got?

If not himself, then he has naught • (What he needs is God!)

To say the things he truly feels and not the words of one who kneels

• (No prayer! No bended knee! • No acknowledgement of God.)

26

Page 26: Except Ye Repent 1. 2 Except ye Repent (Luke 13:1-5 NKJV) :There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate

I did it my way• The record shows I took the blows and did it

my way! • (Oh yes, and there are more blows to come in

the world to come!)_ Yes, it was my way”

• Sung by Frank Sinatra.

“I did it my way”Not God’s Way!What did Jesus

say?(John 5:39-40 KJV) Search the scriptures; for in

them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. {40} And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

The answer!• (Acts 2:38 NKJV) Then Peter said to them,

"Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
