What is

lent?

Worship Grow Serve Share

We believe all Christians are on a life-long journey to grow closer to God and

live more like Jesus. Asbury calls this journey The Discipleship Pathway. As

mentioned above, the four aspects of this pathway are worshipping, growing,

serving, and sharing. In Children’s Ministry we aim for all of our activities to

contain aspects of The Discipleship Pathway, even when having fun for Easter.

We hope you enjoy all that we have put together for you.

Easter Blessings for Your Family,

Jaye Lynne Rooney & Paula Zikogiannis

Directors of Children’s Ministry

Hello Families!

At Asbury, we are committed to helping you worship Christ, grow in Christ,

serve Christ, and share Christ. So in the midst of egg hunts, dyeing of eggs, and

more, I invite you to incorporate the ideas here into your Easter celebrations.

These great ideas not only help your kids know the Easter story, but they allow

them to act them out and really connect with the story for themselves. Our

hope is that over time, your kids come to see their own life story within the

wide expanse of God's story. Also, we hope to have you join Asbury for worship

soon. Enjoy!

Blessings,

Pastor Lindsay Kirkpatrick

Lent is the 40 days (not including Sundays)

between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday. The

church observes this season as a time to reflect and

prepare our hearts for God’s great gift. He sent his son

Jesus to live with us and teach us before he allowed

himself to be sacrificed. He died to pay the price for

our sins. Now we get to be best friends

with God forever.

Worship Here are several ways for families to read and watch the Easter story.

Bibles:

The Easter story can be found in numerous books of the Bible. For younger kids a storybook Bible will

tell the story at their level with engaging illustrations. With older children it can be interesting to read the

story in several books, then discuss what’s different and what seems significant to that author.

A Prayer for Lent God, have mercy on me according to your faithful love.

Because your love is so tender and kind, wipe out my

lawless acts. God, create a pure heart in me. Give me a

new spirit that is faithful to you. Don’t send me away

from you. Don’t take your Holy Spirit away from me.

Give me back the joy that comes from being saved by you.

Give me a spirit that obeys you so that I will keep going.

From Psalm 51

Grow Make one of these sets of Easter Story Eggs to learn more about Holy Week

(the time from Palm Sunday till Easter morning). Don’t worry if you don’t have

any plastic eggs. This activity can be as simple as cutting egg shapes from

paper and attaching them to sandwich bags.

Resurrection Eggs from sundayschoolcrafts.net

Supplies:

Story Cards Template Empty Egg Carton or anything that will hold the eggs

Scissors 12 Plastic Eggs or other containers

Tape or Glue

Have the kids color and cut each egg out from the template with the scripture included in it. Put one piece

of the story into each egg. Have the kids put the eggs in order in the egg carton if they are using one.

Tape or glue the 1-12 list to the inside at the top of egg carton. If you are using a brown lunch bag just

tape or glue to outside of bag. If you are using a basket then just tape to the side of basket.

For each egg you can find or make a tangible item to go with each story card. Here are some suggestions:

Palm Branch- a leaf Bread– piece of cracker

Praying Hands- flower Coins– foil circles

Rope– twine or yarn Feather– a feather or rooster picture

Thorns– a twist-tie circle Cross– perhaps use one with a story to share

Tomb– rock or leave empty Fish– a gummy candy

Clouds– a cotton ball

Serve Share the joy of Easter with others in your community.

Make greeting cards to send to nursing home residents. A drawing lovingly made can make a person’s

day. A Bible verse and some kind words can give a person hope. Here is one nursing home in Deer Park,

Texas that would love to share your mail with its residents.

Help provide for the practical needs of your neighbors. There are 5 Methodist churches in the Pasadena

area that now have Blessing Boxes: Asbury, Sunset, Hope Community, Parkwood, First, and Deer Park.

You can leave a non-perishable food item, toiletry or other useful item, like sunscreen in a box. People in

need can stop by any of these boxes to pick up something they can use. If you don’t live in the area, look

up food pantries nearby or check your grocery store for a donation bin.

Share Now you can tell the Easter story with a puppet show.

Print and color the puppets on the following pages. Attach to a stick or a straw. For a stage you can put

a tablecloth on a table and crouch behind or hang a curtain in front of a doorway. Now you can share the

Good News!

Script:

Jesus was arrested and sentenced to death. On Friday he died on the cross. He

was laid in a tomb and a stone was rolled in front to close it. All day Saturday,

the Jewish Sabbath He laid in the tomb. On Sunday morning the women came

to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away. An angel was outside the tomb

and said, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was

crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.”

Alleluia!
