stranded had to be evacuated to relief centres. Many areas had their electricity supply and
telecommunications cut off.
However the floods brought Malaysians from all walks of life together. Many volunteer
workers came forward to provide assistance in the form of food supplies, clothes and others.
The government provided immediate financial aid to the flood evacuees to ease their burden.
Victims whose homes and household appliances were damaged by the floods received financial
assistance as soon as the situation improved. The authorities also provided emergency supplieslike foodstuff, blankets and mats.
There was a rise in water-borne diseases. Mercy Malaysia provided medical and
humanitarian relief to the flood victims in the affected areas. The mobile clinics run by Mercy
Malaysia provided primary healthcare and hygiene kits.
