Evolution
Change in inherited traits from
generation-to-generation
Driven by natural selection, genetic drift.

MicroevolutionOccurrence of small changes in populations.
Convergent Evolution similar environments distantly related

Sparrow example ofMicroevolution
Sparrows located in the north are larger-bodied.
Larger bodied sparrows can survive in colder weather

MacroevolutionEvolution over long periods of time
Divergent Evolution, two species become dissimilar.
![Page 6: EVOLUTION POWERPOINT DIVERGENT AND CONVERGENT EVOLUTION BY: SHAH BAIG](https://reader033.vdocuments.mx/reader033/viewer/2022061607/56649cae5503460f94970c3a/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
Example of Divergent Evolution
Kit Fox and Red Fox.
Red Lives in forests
Kit Lives in desert
Coats help disguise them in surroundings

Conclusion5 premises of Darwin.
Organisms compete to survive
Organisms within populations vary.
Some variation enhances survivability
Organisms with benefits survive
Features spread through generations

Natural SelectionNatural Selection is a basic part of evolution,
accompanied with migration, genetic drift, and mutation.
There is a variation in traits. Charles Darwin first noticed this with birds on the Galapagos Islands. The birds beaks well equipped to eat cactus got more food, which allowed them to be in better condition when they mate. The birds with beaks better equipped to eating seeds, and drinking nectar from flowers had an advantage there.
