Fungi

Fungi is thought to have originated from a flagellated ancestor eventhough most fungi do not have flagella, the earliest lineages of fungi do contain flagella. Also DNA sequence data suggests that eukaryotes like fungi, animals, and protistan all form a clad called opisthokonts, which is defined as having the flagellum on a posterior location. DNA sequence data also suggests that fungi are closely realted to several groups of single-celled protists, which indicates that their ancestor was unicellular. Scientists believe that the ancestors of fungi diverged into separate lineages about one billion years ago, but the oldest undisputed fossils of fungi are obly about 460 million years old. The lineage of fungi is still currently the subject of much research.
