New York—David Weeks Studio is pleased to present “Evidence and Remains,” a dual exhibition featuring Patrick Keesey and David Weeks. The two artists have sustained a lasting friendship since attending the Rhode Island School of Design together. Patrick Keesey explores the limits of drawing, and the fragile boundaries between something and nothing. Using dark colors on black paper, he marks the path of his eye as he observes the natural world. Colors that would normally register as dark on a lighter surface become a source of light on the black void. The accumulation of marks, each representing a moment of observation, leaves a delicate glow on the paper. David Weeks experiments with scale, dismantles existing mechanisms and tests materials’ limits to find surprising solutions and unexpected forms. This is a glimpse into his process, showing a collection of three dimensional sketches, material explorations and models. The two artists approach their work with the simultaneous practice of destruction and creation, leaving the fleeting evidence of past experience and the remains of passing time. Patrick Keesey (b. 1967) grew up surfing and skateboarding in Southern California and currently splits his time between New York and Marfa, Texas. Keesey's work has been exhibited internationally and is included in numerous private collections. He has been selected to be an artist-in-residence at multiple residencies, including The Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, Connecticut and the Lucid Foundation, California. He was chosen to be the National Parks Service's artist-in-residence on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Past exhibitions include “Partial Recovery,” Blackston Gallery, NY (2014); “Fragments and Refractions,” Blackston Gallery, NY (2011); “Works of Paper,” ACME., Los Angeles (2011); and “Kunstler aus Los Angeles,” Galerie Giti Nourbakhsch, Berlin (1999). Keesey has a BFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design.
