SWAB BOXES

We offer three different 20 pt thick chipboard swab boxes which are primarily used for the collection of DNA Evidence such as blood and other body fluids. All three of our swab boxes come with ¼“ breathing holes which allow the swabs to continue air drying even after packaging.

The standard swab box, which is used in the sexual Assault Evidence Collection Kit will hold up to two 6” long swabs.

The small swab boxes are designed to hold up to two 3” long swabs. The advantage of a 3” swab is less flexibility of the swab shaft when collecting DNA samples.

The 6” long suspended swab box is designed to hold cotton swab bulbs away from the swab box and prevent liquids from being absorbed into the chipboard box if the swabs are still damp or wet when packaged.

SWAB PROTECTORSThe swab protectors allow you to package and protect swabs from cross-contamination even if time does not permit air drying the swab at the time of collection. Simply slide the protector up the swab shaft until the swab bulb is covered and protected. Protectors can be used with both 6” and 3” swabs.

STERILE SWABSThese cotton-tipped, wooden-shafted swabs are the same swabs used in all of our Forensic Kits and are used for collecting both wet and dry body fluids from various surfaces. When

collecting dry body fluids, the swabs cotton tip (bulb) should be lightly moistened with distilled water to lift the dried material from the surface from which it is found.

Whenever swabs are used for collecting biological evidence from body orifices, such as cases of sexual assault, or from blood stains found at crime scenes, it is always necessary to air dry the swabs before packaging them to prevent degradation of DNA from bacteria.

This swab drying cabinet is designed to speed up the drying process by blowing ambient air over the swab bulbs and at the same time lessens the possibility of contamination of the collected swabs during the drying procedure.

This lockable drying cabinet measures 13½“ L x 8 W x 8½“ H and can be used in an examination room when collecting specimens from sexual assault victims or at a crime scene. These lightweight (under 5lbs.) cabinets can be mounted to a wall if space is limited. MOBILE EVIDENCE DRYING CABINETS

In order to maintain the integrity and credibility of your evidence, it is imperative that your evidence drying be protected and contamination free. If you’re drying blood stained or wet evidence on examination tables, on the floor, in jail cells, in shower stalls, or in evidence rooms, you run the risk of cross contamination, loss of trace evidence, and lack of evidence security.

These Mobile Evidence Drying Cabinets are designed to provide a secure, tamper-evident area for “air drying” clothing, bed sheets, blankets, towels, etc., from homicides and sexual assault cases. The evidence drying cabinets are constructed from a sturdy PVC frame and floor pan, which is covered on all six sides with a unique synthetic mesh fabric that permits air drying of evidence. The fabric does not absorb liquids, is easily cleaned with

household detergents, and can be sprayed with a 10% bleach solution to eliminate blood borne pathogens and DNA cross contamination.

The cabinets are supplied with plastic hangers, plastic zippers (to secure the access flap), a hanging mesh bag (for shoes, currency, or other small items), and quality locking wheels that allow you to move the cabinets from one location to another.

Self-locking evidence security tags may be purchased separately to provide tamper-evident “locks” to keep evidence secure during the drying processes. These handheld measuring devices use ultrasound technology to accurately measure distances (99.5% ± ¼” (1 cm) at both indoor and outdoor crime scenes.

Both of these devices work by sending out narrow beams of sound waves that bounce off solid “targets” and return to the handheld receivers. The receivers contain sophisticated electronics and microprocessors that convert elapsed time into distance measurement, which is shown in the easy to read LED display window. Both devices have a built-in calculator to add linear measurements and compute area and volumes. Easy to understand instruction sheets are also included.

Re-order Number EDMD (red) is equipped with a laser pointer to show you where you are aiming, however, it can only be used when the “target” is a flat surface, such as a wall or window. If the target is not flat, such as a tree trunk, light pole, etc., the sound waves may not return to the receiver.

Re-order Number EDMT (yellow) eliminates the requirement that the “target” be flat. This unit is supplied with an electronic “target” which can be mounted on a camera tripod or taped to or held on a curved or round surface, guaranteeing the receiver will be able to measure the distance.

The “Bureau” Reference Scale set contains an L-shaped scale which is 30 cm long on the long arm and 15 cm on the short arm, and a second straight scale which is 15 cm long.

TRACE EVIDENCE VACUUM COLLECTION SYSTEMThe importance of trace evidence such as glass shards, fibres, hair, and even plant spores is becoming increasingly more valuable to investigators since more and more laboratories are now using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) for trace evidence analysis.

This compact (174/5”L x 73/4”W x 91/4”H), lightweight (9 lbs, 14 oz) system is supplied with a 15 ft power cord and incorporates a filter in the nozzle that traps trace evidence as small as 0.1 micron in size. Operation of the system is straightforward. Simply remove the filter/nozzle assembly from the heat-sealed plastic bag, attach it to the vacuum hose which extends 5 ft, then vacuum the suspected area (cushions, couches, car interiors, etc). After collection, place the filter/nozzle assembly in the self-sealing evidence bag provided and submit for analysis. HEMIDENT™ PRESUMPTIVE BLOOD ID KITUsed for the presumptive identification of bloodstains, Hemident™ is non-destructive and enables the investigator to retain the evidence intact for further laboratory analysis. Each test is a compact, self-contained unit, consisting of two ampoules of prescribed reagents within a disposable plastic tube. To use Hemident™, simply swab the suspected blood stain/drop with a cotton-tipped swab (swab bulb may be moistened with water if suspected blood is dry), then break off wooden swab shaft and place swab bulb in the tube. Break the two ampoules which contain the reagent. If the stain/drop is blood, the swab and solution will turn blue-green in a few seconds. The reagents are capable of identifying down to one part per million of blood. Hemident™ was designed for field test use and, as such, will not distinguish between human and animal blood. Laboratory analysis is necessary to determine the source of the blood.
