SADDLE UP...The best way to learn about a state forest is toexperience it first hand, and this is what the FloridaState Forests Trailtrotter Program is all about. Here’s
what you need to do:
Ride a total of 8 trails in a minimum of 4 stateforests, selecting trails from page 20 orvisiting the Trailtrotter’s Trail List (http://www.fl-dof.com/Recreation/Trailtrotter/trail_list.html). At the trailhead of each trailthat you ride, obtain one pre-paid postalsurvey card. Fill in the card and put it in the
mail after you complete the ride.
Record your progress in the Trailtrotter’s Log
which can be viewed and printed from http://www.fl-dof.com/Recreation/Trailtrotter/log.html. As you send in your postal surveycards, we will send you a sticker for each one.You will affix the sticker next to the entry for
each trail you ride.
When you have ridden and logged your 8 trails, complete the Trailtrotter’s Log and mail it tous. We will send you a beautiful patch thatyou can sew on a shirt, vest or jacket. Inaddition, you’ll receive a certificatecommemorating your achievement signed by
Agriculture Commissioner Charles Bronson.
A supplemental handout is available at trailheadkiosks that provides directions to all of thestate forests involved in the Trailtrotter
Program.
Do you enjoy riding horses? Have youwanted to explore on horseback but haven’thad the opportunity? You are now holdingyour ticket to a grand tour of Florida’s StateForests. See page 20 for a complete list oftrails!

M&H is a Christian owned and operated facility. On Sunday,Rick Morrell, an ordained Baptist Minister, pastors at theEstates Baptist Church, and Joyce Holland is the Pre-SchoolCoordinator of the Same Church. Many of our employees alsoattend Estates Baptist Church. For this reason we are closedon Sundays to be able to worship. You are welcome to join us.
Special Groups
We have many different groups that take advantage of ourfacilities. Church groups enjoy the use of our picnic area after hayrides; girl scout troops use our expertise for their merit badges, and schools bring their children out to learn about horses. $100
per hour.
Lessons
Come learn from the best. Joyce Holland has over 25 yearsexperience in western riding instruction. We offer riding lessons tointerested parties from the age of four on up. The oldest person totake instructions was a man of 74 who took lessons for threewinters. The cost of our lessons are $50.00 per hour.
Trail Rides
One of our most popular features is our Trail Rides. We offer rideson over 100 miles of trails through the Everglades. Our rides areprivate that include walking jogging and loping for the moreexperienced riders. These are guided rides made by appointment. The cost of our rides are $30.00 per horse, with the ride being 1hour in length. Private rides (1 person) are $50.00 for 1 hour induration. They are offered from dusk to dawn Monday through
Saturday.
Birthday Parties
Our birthday parties are approximately two hours in length, withone hour on the horse and one hour in our picnic area. The cost is$250.00 with $100 deposit included in the price.

RIDE ON...There’s more to this program than one patch and
one certificate. Much more.
There are two additional levels to this program. The same brochure can be used for all three. Onceyou have completed the first level, just pick upanother one of these brochures and start on the
next level.
Trailsaddler: If you ride 16 trails from the Trail
List, you will achieve the next level: Trailsaddler. For your accomplishment, you will receive a new
patch and certificate.
Trailwrangler: If you ride 24 trails from the
Trail List, you will achieve the third and final level:Trailwrangler. For this accomplishment, you willreceive one last patch and certificate. When puttogether, the three patches form one interlockingpattern. But remember: you must complete allthree levels of the program to obtain the com-
pleted design.
REAP THE BENEFITS...The benefits are many when you participate in theFlorida State Forests Trailtrotter Program. You canimprove your riding skills at your own rate withoutthe pressure of competition. Your only competitor
is yourself.
Also, you get to experience the beauty of Florida’sstate forests. The opportunity to have personalexperience with nature is rare these days, and this
program will give you that opportunity.
Finally, you will feel the pride of accomplishment.
So find the nearest state forest on the Trail List(http://www.fl-dof.com/Recreation/Trailtrotter/
trail_list.html) and get started.

My Friend Susan and I had to say good-bye to our Hannah a couple of weeks ago.We are grateful to veterinarians and staff at Surgicare in Brandon for doing theirvery best to save her. They treated her with love and care. Every time I spokewith a staff member, they made me feel loved as well. When I knew we wouldhave to let her go, I wanted to ask for a lock of her hair, but I could not get thewords out for all the pain I was feeling. After Hannah had gone home to be withthe lord, they called me and said they were mailing her things to me, including thehair from her tail and a brochure about a company called Pony Locks. PonyLocks preserves locks of hair in beautiful pieces of jewelry. I was so touched bythe gesture of the Surgicare and the concept of Pony Locks, that I wanted to shareit with our readers.
