Fuji VIII GP: the first auto-cure, resin reinforced glass ionomer restorativeFuji VIII GP is resin reinforced for enhanced physical properties, offering stronger adhesion and greater flexural strength. The fast set auto-cure is ideal for bulk placement and well suited to the sandwich technique. Bulk placement of Fuji VIII GP removes concerns regarding the negative effects of polymerisation shrinkage stress from light-cured materials in deep cavities.

In clinical situations when old restorations fail and cusps crack, it can be challenging to select a restorative material that offers, a reliable seal on dentine margins, biocompatibility and strength. In these situations, a combination of glass ionomer and composite is ideal and Fuji VIII GP is the material of choice.

In the clinical case below, a failed restoration was removed, crack was dissected until it ran out and the buccal cusp was reduced for a direct overlay with a closed sandwich restoration using Fuji VIII GP in the deep distal area.

An innovative use of Fuji VIII GP has been described by Dr Jason Smithson. Smithson termed his approach as “The Modified Super-Closed Sandwich Technique”.* This technique uses Fuji VIII GP as a bulk filling material beneath composite to provide a fast aesthetic base that significantly reduces the stress on adhesive interfaces that is developed from polymerisation contraction in high “c-factor” cavities.

her Dental Hygiene

education at the University

of Pennsylvania, her

Bachelor’s degree in

Dental Auxiliary Education

at the University of North

Carolina and her Master’s in Public Administration

in Health Services Management from Golden Gate

University in San Francisco.

After practicing and teaching in the US for many

years, she returned to her home country of New

Zealand in 1994 to participate in the introduction

of the first school of Dental Hygiene in New

Zealand. Since that time, Robyn has been on the

Faculty of the Otago School of Dentistry, the Otago

Polytechnic and helped with the development of

the BSC in Oral Health at the Auckland University

of Technology. She was also a Senior lecturer, and

NZDHA representative to the Oral Health Advisory

Board for the university. Since 2010, Robyn has

been a Lecturer in the Department of Periodontics

at the University of Sydney.

She has served as President and Vice-President

of the NZDHA and sat on the New Zealand Dental

Council for 6 years. She served on the Oral Health

Advisory Group to the Ministry of Health and

the New Zealand Dental Health Foundation for

four years.

In March 2013, Robyn was invited to attend

the Senior Dental Leaders seminar at Harvard

University in Boston and has recently been

selected as the President-Elect of the International

Federation of Dental Hygienists, where she also

chairs the Education and Research Committee. She

served on the House of Delegates of IFDH for 12

years as the New Zealand representative.

been offered the role as the Aged Care Liaison for

the DHAAQ a position she is fond of given geriatric

oral health along with paediatrics are strong passions

of hers. Marcelle has delivered presentations as

part of the Hu Friedy Master’s program in 2013 and

has since come on board as one of Hu Friedy’s four

Australian educational consultants.

DR TIHANA DIVNIC-RESNIKIs a clinical lecturer in the

Discipline of Periodontics

at the University of

Sydney. Previously,

she was a lecturer in

Periodontics and Oral

Medicine at the University of Belgrade (Serbia) for

10 years, where she also practised as a specialist of

Periodontology and Oral Medicine.

Dr Tihana Divnic-Resnik was involved in several

research projects in Europe. She gained her

Master degree by doing research on periodontal

regeneration with synthetic bone graft (calcium

sulfate) and PhD degree by researching the use of

bone morphogenetic proteins BMP-2 in alveolar

socket preservation. She has published her work in

several international journals and presented it at

numerous professional conferences. Her research

interests lie mainly in the areas of periodontal

therapy, bone regeneration and tissue management.

Tihana is a member of European Federation of

Periodontology (EFP) and a certified instructor for

iTOP oral prophylaxis program. As an educator she

was involved in continued professional education

for dentists and dental hygienists in Europe. As

the team leader, she worked on promotion of oral

hygiene programs in disadvantaged regions of

Eastern Europe on a voluntary basis.

She is proud to become a member of Australasian

team of Hu-Friedy educational consultants and to be

able to present Hu-Friedy Educational Programmes

to professionals in Australasia region.

LIBBY DANNLibby Dann is an Oral

Health Therapist and

Educational Consultant.

Having completed a

Bachelor of Applied Health

Science (Oral Health) and

Graduate Certificate in

Health Science (Clinical Education), she found her

The University of Queensland, School of Dentistry,

Her professional career in dentistry spans over

Prepare the post space using a ParaPost® Fiber Lux™ Drill.

Trial seat the ParaPost® Fiber Lux™ Post. If necessary, adjust the post length accordingly.

Condition the root canal using ParaBond® Non-Rinse Condi-tioner. Remove excess Non-Rinse Conditioner using paper points. Dry the root canal using a gentle stream of air.

Apply mixed ParaBond® Adhesive A and B into the prepared post space preparation. Remove excess ParaBond® Adhesi-ve using paper points. Dry the adhesive bond layer using a gentle stream of air.

Apply ParaCore® 5ml syringe material directly into the root canal. Coat the ParaPost® Fiber Lux™ Post with the ParaCore® material and position it into the root canal. Remove excess Para-Core® material and light cure (if desired).

Fill the ParaPost® ParaForm® Coreformer with ParaCore® material. Position the filled ParaPost® ParaForm® Coreformer. Remove excess ParaCore® core material and light cure. Remove the ParaPost® ParaForm® Coreformer. Complete restora-tion accordingly.

The new crown cutter for zirconium oxide restorations 4ZR (“fo(u)r zirconia”) has been developed especially for this particularly tedious and material wearing work. The special bonding leads to much better substance removal and a longer service life, com-pared to other diamond instruments.

Preferred use at a speed of ( 160,000 rpm in the red contra-angle, because the higher torque (com-pared to that of a traditional turbine) is recommended for cutting Zr02 .

For trepanation or small corrections on ceramic restorations made of Zr02, we recommend our diamond instruments for zirconia.

Advantages:• Special coating to ensure permanent bonding of the diamond grains• Excellent substance removal• Very long service life

Grinding of ceramic abutments, trepanation, removal or fitting of ceramic restorations made of ZrO2 - all of these tasks are very difficult to manage with conventional instruments. These instruments for zirconia were developed in comprehensive test series. The special coating bonds the diamond grains durably in the bonding layer, greatly improving the cutting per-formance and the service life of these abrasives, compared to conventional diamond instruments. The instruments for zirconia are available in different grit sizes. For removing crowns made of zirconium oxide, we recommend our crown cutter 4ZR for zirconia.

Filing Reverse to Cut Load

More Efficient than Ordinary Torque Reverse

When the torque applied to the file exceeds the set limit, the file instantly reverses 90 degrees and then rotates forward at least 180 degrees. The torque level that triggers the reverse rotation can be set much lower than the previous model at 20g, 40g, 60g, or 100g. A low torque reverse setting improves patient safety as it allows the file to follow the canal curvature much more ac-curately, reducing the risk of file binding and breakage. Additionally, with a reverse angle of only 90 degrees, the clinician is able to con-tinue to work efficiently without bother-some interruption.

The new OTR (optimum torque reverse) module safely and efficiently cleans and enlarges canals. It reduces file binding and breakage by employing precise torque reverse control. This module is exceptionally good at following the contours of curved canals and minimizes the creation of ledges and perforations.
