Top tips

The five food groups are:

1. Vegetables

2. Breads and cereals, mostly wholegrain or high-fibre

3. Fruit

4. Milk, yoghurt and cheese

5. Lean meat and poultry fish, eggs, tofu, nuts and seeds* and legumes/beans.

• Pack a main lunch.

• Pack some fruit and vegetables.

• Add some snacks – use your child’s appetite as a guide.

• Leave out ‘sometimes’ or ‘occasional’ foods like lollies, chips and chocolate.

• Pack a water bottle. *Check your childcare or school policy.

Use a variety of everyday foods from the five food groups.
