A Duckyard Project

Duckyard members are committed to making group work better for everyone. We see how hierarchy permeates many aspects of our society and places power in the hands of some while keeping it from others – from the White House to the playground. We believe that everyone should have access to decision-making power, and we see the multitude of social problems that result from unequal access to that power. Our sessions are ultimately about finding ways in which decision-making and problem-solving in a group setting can be centered around a shared belief in equality. Our projects are informed by the belief that everyone’s voice has merit and deserves a listening audience. We have a collective investment in communicating our ideas clearly and meaningfully to a wide audience. We live, play, and work together in close quarters exerting constant efforts to treat each other with respect and kindness. We talk about our power struggles and shortcomings, acknowledging that we’re not perfect people and often don’t know how to collaborate with perfect equality. We strive to dismantle hierarchical structures and live radically in community with one another. This is our “social change,” our effort to fill an identifiable need for equality in society. We believe that our model for group decision-making is useful and groundbreaking and could positively influence many aspects of daily life.

We are Duckyard. You can be too.
