American consumers were appalled by the ascending rate ofcomplaints related to the permanent attachment of plasticmesh in the mitigative care for pelvic organ prolapse (POP).This perception provoked the U.S. Food and DrugAdministration (FDA) to propose therapy for defectivevaginal mesh.

The front wall of the vagina provides support to thebladder, so these two structures affect each other. As thebody advances through ageing process, the bladder slidesinto the female reproductive part after the vaginal wall sags.Even a small change in the position may result to annoyingcomplications, like urinary incontinence and pelvic pain.

Bladder prolapse, depending on the signs manifested by thepatient, is classified into four levels. When a small portion ofthe bladder protrudes into the vagina, this is considered gradeone prolapse. Since the extent of prolapse is mild, urinaryincontinence may be experienced by the patient from time totime. Almost always, this level of bladderprolapse is not associated withany noticeable symptom.

The prolapse is at grade one two when the bladder has alreadyextended into the vaginal opening. In this type of prolapse, thepatient may feel pain while voiding or during sexual intercourse(dyspareunia), unlike grade one prolapse which presents mildersymptoms. With prolonged standing and sitting, this type ofprolapsed bladder may be exacerbated.

A grade three prolapse is categorized as severe bladder prolapsesince part of the bladder can be easily visualized bulging out fromthe female reproductive organ. Symptoms that may occur in thisstage of prolapse are pain on the pelvis and the vagina, mostparticularly, when the patient engages in strenuous activities.Since a portion of the bladder is outside the body, sitting may bedifficult. Patients having grade three bladder prolapse aresusceptible to infections.

When the entire bladder is outside of the vaginal canal, this isreferred to as complete prolapse; this is bladder prolapse is in stagefour. Because the bladder is totally exposed, infections and injuriesare most likely to occur; with this, the patient needs immediatecorrective procedure. If there is a complete prolapse of thebladder, other types of pelvic organ prolapse are most likely to occur.

Apart from pregnancy, childbirth, past hysterectomies, and otherpelvic surgeries, bladder prolapse may also be triggered by chroniccough or bowel problems, like constipation. In connection withthis, each and every woman is prone to developing this condition.

Bladder prolapse is only one type of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) adult women are anxious about lately. Being the most recent invention for addressing POP, synthetic mesh use has been widely supported by both surgeons and patients, notwithstanding the increasing rate of vaginal mesh lawsuit that manufacturers are being subjected to.
