National Theatre Live - Encore

King LearThursday 18 October......................................................................Venue: The ACE Centre, NelsonDoors Open: 6.45pm Screening: 7pmTickets: £13 (adult), £12 (conc)......................................................................Broadcast from London’s West End, see Ian McKellen’s ‘extraordinarily moving portrayal’ (Independent) of King Lear.

Jonathan Munby directs this ‘nuanced and powerful’ (The Times) contemporary retelling of Shakespeare’s tender, violent, moving and shocking play.

Considered by many to be the greatest tragedy ever written, King Lear tells the tale of two ageing fathers – one a King, one his courtier – who reject the children who truly love them. Their blindness unleashes a tornado of pitiless ambition and treachery, as family and state are plunged into a violent power struggle with bitter ends.

The Madness of George IIITuesday 20 November......................................................................Venue: The ACE Centre, NelsonDoors Open: 6.45pm Screening: 7pmTickets: £13 (adult), £12 (conc)......................................................................Multi-award-winning drama The Madness of George III will be broadcast live in National Theatre Live’s first ever broadcast from Nottingham Playhouse.

Written by one of Britain’s best-loved playwrights, Alan Bennett, and with a cast including Olivier Award-winners Mark Gatiss (Sherlock, Wolf Hall) and Adrian Scarborough (Gavin and Stacey and Upstairs Downstairs), this epic play will have you gripped.

It’s 1786 and King George III is the most powerful man in the world. But his behaviour is becoming increasingly erratic as he succumbs to fits of lunacy. With his mind unravelling at a dramatic pace, ambitious politicians and the scheming Prince of Wales threaten to undermine the power of the Crown.

Panto – Dick WhittingtonSaturday 5 - Sunday 20 January 2019......................................................................Venue: The Muni Theatre, Colne......................................................................George Critchley, for PMA Productions, is delighted to return to Colne for his 21st year as producer, with a first for the Muni Theatre - Dick Whittington.

And it’s the Return of The Dame with STAR WARS’ Goss Toowers – Keith De’Winter – back in his best frock – this time as Sally The Cook.

Comedian Lee ‘Goodie’ Goode will play Captain Birdseye; talented newcomer Timothy Roberts takes on the title role of Dick Whittington, Yazmin Dewey plays his wife Alice and George Critchley is back in his comedy role - this time as Idle Jack.

This is a pantomime that mixes fact with fiction. The story is based on Richard - Dick Whittington - who was the third son of Sir William Whittington of Gloucester.

And with every good story comes a villain. In this tale it is King Rat - played by former EastEnders favourite Mark Homer - who terrorises the good folk of London with the RATlings, causing mischief and mayhem – and squaring up to Dick Whittington and his cat to the bitter end.

With a colourful set, elaborate costumes, crazy comedy and magical music, this promisesto be another fantastic pantomime from George Critchley, providing fun for all the family!......................................................................
