This will be Ayr’s first ever Scottish Athletics registered, professionally measured and chip timed half marathon race on closed roads. With stalls, funfair and lots more at Ayr’ Low Green.The William Hill Ayr Gold Cup Festival runs from 19th -21st September and two annual book festivals return, Tidelines and Imprint.Also in October it’s Halloween, with some spooky events going on at Heads of Ayr Farm Park, Culzean Castle and Tamfest returns, a unique celebration of Halloween & Heritage.Illuminight is back for 2019, last year the event welcomed thousands to Dean Castle Country Park. Started in 1980 this Annual Festival marks the 1263 Battle of Largs, the last mainland battle between the Scots and Norse. Each year the living history Viking Village is open to the public so that they can get a glimpse of what life would have been like in a 13th Century Viking Village. Come and talk to them about their way of life; learn about how they made their clothes, weapons, jewellery and food. Ask the Vikings about their religion, beliefs, homes, crafts, ships, their homeland and why they left it. As well as the Viking Village and food fayre open all week, there will be local music and groups. Air displays and other activities including axe throwing! The Festival of Fire on the final Saturday includes the fantastic torchlight procession, battle re-enactment, burning of longship and fireworks looking over the sea on the Firth of Clyde. Event: GO FESTIVALDate(s): Sat 7th Sep: 1pmVenue: Low Green, AyrThis will be Ayr’s first ever Scottish Athletics registered, professionally measured and chip timed half marathon race on closed roads. There will also be a 10k and an innovative opportunity for families to cycle either distance. The courses are on flat roads and are expected to attract some top athletes from across the UK who will set records on these new courses. The Go! Festival site opens at 1 pm on the Low Green and Ayr beach promenade where the races will start and finish. The carnival atmosphere and funfair are bound to attract thousands to the area who can also be there to cheer home the runners and cyclists in the evening light. The winners will receive their medals in front of a large audience and then there will be a spectacular night air display, fairground attractions then a firework finale.
