leiter Mansion Rezoned For Apartment Use

Apartment house zoning has been granted for the Leiter Mansion, on

Dupont Circle, in the block bounded by Nineteenth and Q streets and New Hampshire avenue N.W.. over the protests of a number of nearby property owners.

Following a public hearing yester- day, the District Zoning Commission announced its approval of this and four other petitions for reclassifica- tion for use of properties. Decision was postponed to another executive session Saturday on several pro- posed amendments to the zoning regulations, one of which would re-

quire off-street parking space for any residential building hereafter erected. The draft considered yes- terday is being rewritten.

The Leiter home now is occupied by the National Advisory Committee on Aeronautics. Richard H. Wllmer, representing the Leiter estate, de- clared that never again would such a large place as this be used as a

private residence. Oposition was voiced by Mrs.

Kenna Elkins, representative of the Woman s National Democratic Club and other nearby property owners.
