Do not spurnme, an accused sinner, though I have made myselfcompletely useless by my shameful thoughts, words,and deeds and through indolence have become a slaveto the pleasures of life. But as the Mother of God wholoves all people, mercifully have compassion upon me,a sinner and a prodigal, and receive my prayer though itbe offered to you by unclean lips. Entreat your Son andour Lord and Master, using your boldness as a mother,

so that he may open to me the loving mercy of hisgoodness, overlook my numberless transgressions, turnme to repentance, and make me an acceptable doer ofhis commandments. Always be near me, for you aremerciful, compassionate and loving. Be my ardent helpand protection in this life, defending me from theassaults of adversaries, and lead me to salvation. At the

hour of my death, care for my miserable soul and drivethe dark visions of evil spirits far from it. On theawesome day of judgment save me from eternalpunishment and make me an inheritor of the ineffableglory of your Son, our God. PRAYER TO OUR LORD JESUS CHRISTGrant us, Master, as we depart for sleep, rest for bodyand soul. Protect us from the gloom of sinful sleep andfrom all dark pleasures of the night. Calm the impulsesof passion, and quench the fiery darts of evil which aretreacherously cast against us. Check the turbulence ofour flesh and lull all our earthly and mundane thoughts.Grant us, O God, a watchful mind, prudent reason, a

vigilant heart, and tranquil sleep, free from all evildreams. Raise us up at the hour of prayer, strengthenus in your commandments, and keep unshaken withinus the remembrance of your judgments. Grant us toglorify you all night long that we may praise and blessand glorify your all honorable and magnificent name, ofthe Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and
