Students in the Community There are many ways in which students of the school are part of the
community in which we live. Harry Whittaker, Doug Boyle, Adam Webster and
Bronte Phelps have been working with seniors in the community providing
technology help. It’s a Mid Richmond Neighbourhood Centre organised
activity. They have volunteered their time on Wednesday afternoons at the
Scout Hall for the tech support program known as “Be Connected”.
In an email to the school from Kim Walton (MRNC) Kim said “Their skills and
knowledge have been invaluable to many community members who have
come to the program.” During term 2 they worked with Sylvia Kilroy to develop
flyers, certificates and other documentation to support the local edition of
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea. Kim said “The outcome with their help to
promote the event was that over $1000 was raised for cancer awareness.”
Well done Harry, Doug, Adam and Bronte.

displayed on the front cover of our concert program
on the night.
A reminder to parents that students need to be in
their classroom at 4:30pm on Wednesday of Week

Healthy Harold Coming Soon It’s almost that time of the
year when our Primary
students have a visit from
Healthy Harold and the Life
Education Van. Specially
trained educators present
vital health and safety
messages through tactile
and multisensory activities. Each session is
designed to intrigue and excite children of all
ages, which captures their imagination and has a
lasting impact! This is a compulsory activity for all
of our K-6 students so please be sure to return the
permission notes and payment of $10 per child to
the front Office.
Cows Create Careers Today our Year 9 Agriculture students travelled to
Lismore to make a presentation as participants of
the Cows Create Careers program. It is a Dairy
Australia program to promote careers within the
Dairy industry in Australia for Years 7-11 students.
Our Year 9 Ag students have been raising 2
calves as part of this program and working
alongside local dairy farmers to learn about the
industry.
They had to write a letter, take creative photos
and produce a YouTube clip around science.
We’re excited to announce that the following
students placed first in the Senior Division this
year: Oscar Forrester, Jordan Graham, Paris
Ryan and Corey Svoboda. Congratulations!
Luke Cleaver - Yr 7-12 Teacher

Staff Meet Eddie Woo This week some of our Primary staff were fortunate enough to attend a talk by
Eddie Woo at Southern Cross School. In 2018, he was named Australia ’s
Local Hero in the Australian of the Year Awards and listed as one of the Top
10 Teachers in the world by the Global Teacher Prize. Eddie is the Leader of
Mathematics Growth at the NSW Department of Education and he teaches at
Cherrybrook Technology High School, the second largest secondary school in
NSW. He is known for his innovation and personal approach in the classroom,
which in 2012 led him to start posting videos online for a student who was sick
with cancer and was missing a lot of school. Before long, his videos found an
audience across the country and beyond. Wootube now boasts more than
300,000 subscribers and has attracted more than nineteen million views
worldwide - and counting. Eddie’s
unique and caring approach to
teaching is breaking the
misconception that mathematics is an
inaccessible and difficult subject.
He has written two books, Woo’s
Wonderful World of Maths and Eddie
Woo’s Magical Maths and will be at
the Byron Bay Writer’s Festival this
weekend.
Elizabeth Delman, K-6 Teacher
