Real Carbon Fiber Appliqués for Model XInstallation Instructions

Please read this document in its entirety before you begin installation.

Real Carbon Fiber Appliqués have been designed for those Model X owners who would like to add easily installed exterior customization for the Model X. Although we provide detailed instructions for installation, some Model X owners may prefer to get help. If you feel uncomfortable with this installation for any reason, we strongly recommend that you engage a professional installer to do the work for you.

IMPORTANT: Please be certain that you’re completely satisfied with the look and style of each the Appliqué piece BEFORE you remove the red adhesive backing from the piece. Once the red adhesive backing has been removed from any piece, this product cannot be returned for a refund or replacement.

This document includes instructions for the installation of: A, B and C-pillar appliqués (driver and passenger sides) Rear spoiler appliqué

An installation Video can be found at www.evannex.com.

DISCLAIMER: Real Carbon Fiber appliqués are installed using a high strength automotive adhesive that attaches the appliqué to vehicle surfaces. Evannex® is NOT responsible for any damage and/or repair or replacement costs associated with the installation, use, or removal of any appliqué or the removal of the adhesive used to install the appliqués.

GENERIC INSTALLATION COMMENTS

1. It is very important to properly align each appliqué piece before pressing it into place. The adhesive used for the appliqués is extremely strong, and it will be very difficult to remove the appliqué piece once it adheres.

2. We recommend spraying the adhesive side of each appliqué with water. This will allow you to remove the applique more easily if you have improperly aligned it. Note, however, that this must be done immediately, otherwise the adhesion will be permanent.

3. In order to avoid problems, we advise installing each appliqué piece “incrementally.” By this, we mean that you should remove only a small portion of the red adhesive backing material (exposing only a small part of the adhesive surface), then align one edge of each piece, again checking alignment of the edge and adjacent perpendicular edges. Work slowly to affix the material in steps while pulling the red backing off. Use a soft clean cloth the press the part into place. You can use a spray bottle with distilled water, spraying it on the adhesive surface to reduce stickiness a bit until it evaporates, but it isn't necessary.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

IMPORTANT: It is very important to properly align each piece before pressing it into place. The adhesive used for the appliqués is extremely strong and it will be very difficult to remove the accent piece once it adheres. In general, one edge should be lightly adhered along an edge to allow alignment to be checked before the piece is pressed into place.

Tools required: none. Materials suggested: a spray bottle containing water, and a clean cloth.

REAR SPOILER APPLIQUÉ

This appliqué is applied to the top surface of the Model X rear spoiler.

Step 1. Clean the top surface of the rear spoiler thoroughly. To be sure that the surface is free of any oils, rub down with alchohol using a soft cloth. Allow to dry.

Step 2a. Test fit BEFORE you remove the red adhesive backing. Plan your installation approach and familiarize yourself with the shapes and curves involved. Note that the spoiler applique can be positioned forward to allow more of the rounded edge of the spoiler to appear or rearward to cover more of the edge paint. IMPORTANT: The appliqué lie flat on the top surface of the spoiler. It should NOT be positioned so it hangs over the rounded edge.

Step 2b. Be certain that you have positioned the spoiler appliqué so that it is centered properly. The amount of edge surface on the driver and passenger side of the spoiler should be equal.

Step 3. After you’re confident with placement, remove the adhesive backing and spray the adhesive surface with water. Apply the appliqué incrementally and beginning at one edge and working toward the center. Use the tips of your fingers to be sure the edge of the appliqué aligns with the edge of the

spoiler surface. If things are not aligned, pull the appliqué up and adjust, but this must be done quickly befor significant surface is adhered. When you’re satisfied with fit, press into place.

A, B, and C-PILLAR APPLIQUÉS

The following steps apply to all appliqués. Note that the B-Pillar is provided in two (2) pieces. Each must be aplied separately.

CAUTION: Be certain that you use the appropriate appliqué for the driver or passenger side (they are mirror image geometries). Fit the applique in place before removing the red adhesive backing to be sure you’re using the right appliqué for the side of the vehicle you’re working on.

Step 1. Clean the A, B or C-Pillar surface thoroughly. To be sure that the surface is free of any oils, rub down with alchohol using a soft cloth. Allow to dry.

Step 2. Check to be certain that the A, B, or C-Pillar appliqué you’ve chosen is the right one for the side of the car you’re working on. BEFORE you remove the red adhesive backing, press the appliqué into place being certain that all edges fit properly.

Step 3. After you’re confident with placement, remove the adhesive backing and spray the adhesive surface with water. Apply the appliqué beginning at one edge and working downward. Use the tips of your fingers to be sure the edge of the appliqué aligns properly. If things are not aligned, pull the appliqué up and adjust, but this must be done quickly before significant surface is adhered. When you’re satisfied with fit, press into place.

REMOVAL OF REAL CARBON FIBER APPLIQUÉS

Appliqué pieces are designed for permanent adhesion, so they're not easy to remove (that's the whole idea). But it can be done. Starting at a corner, use a plastic putty knife or professional auto panel removal tool (i.e., a sharp plastic edge; NEVER use a metal edge) and pry up the corner of the appliqué. You can heat the appliqué surface with a hair drier -- NOT a heat gun -- and this will help by making the material slightly more pliable. Then, working methodically, use the sharp plastic edge and work inward, pulling the material up as you go. DO NOT use a metal edge!

It’s important to note a few things:

1) Some of the adhesive will be left on the surface. This can be removed by rolling it up with the sharp plastic edge or even your fingernail; the original surface can then be cleaned with acetone to remove any final adhesive smudges.

2) It's unlikely that you'll damage the automotive surface beneath the CF piece, but it can happen if you scratch the surface while removing the adhesive. Be careful! Also, if you adhere the pieces to a porous or soft surface, damage will occur during removal.

3) You will damage the appliqué itself when you remove it. It will be stretched or creased and cannot be reused or re-applied, so you should remove an Appliqué ONLY if you no longer want the look.
