EVALUATION: QUESTION THREE.

WHAT DO DISTRIBUTORS DO?▸ Distributors: ‘An entity that buys noncompeting

products or product lines, warehouses them, and resells them to retailers or direct to the end users or customers. ‘—

A distributor is generally an organisation who handles the theatrical release of a film in a particular country as

well as the marketing of DVD’s, demand, downloads- any way in which the consumers can watch the film.

EVALUATION: QUESTION THREE.

CHOOSING A DISTRIBUTOR.▸ We are an independent company, meaning there are

a few options we could choose to distribute our film. ▸ We could could get ourselves a distribution deal with

a large Hollywood conglomerate, for example Universal or Warner Bros., if we think our film will have a global tent pole audience and will appeal to people around the world.

▸ We think however that our film would appeal to a smaller, niche, audience and therefore could just join in a deal with a smaller company to reach a local, domestic audience.

FUNDING.

▸ For funding for our film, we thought that we could get a grant from the BFI on the account that our film is

very small and is independent.

DECISION…▸ As a group we decided that we would get our funding from

the BFI, the National Lottery or another charity which would be willing to invest. This is because of how small our film is and how we would struggle to get investment from a large conglomerate, our target audience is domestic and niche and therefore it doesn't matter if we don't have a major amount of capital to help fund it.

▸ We also decided that we should have a small distributor as well, so that we can reach our domestic audience. We thought that Film 4 would be a good distributor because they are particularly supportive of the UK film industry and is driven to support independent film-makers.
