distribute your media product and why?

Before I started my music magazine I research other magazine and found out who published that magazine. I have done this so that I know what publishing company would publish my style of magazine. One of the companies that I looked at was Bauer Media group. This publishing company publishes music magazines including Kerrang and MOJO, both of these magazines are a similar style to mine.

Publishing companies

Bauer Media Group would be a suitable company to publish my magazine because they already have similar magazines such as Kerrang and MOJO these are aimed at a similar audience to mine. However I think that there will be a space for my magazine because they only have a small range of music magazines. Bauer Media group also do radio and TV which could be used for my magazine.

Bauer Media Group is a large European-based media company, headquartered in Hamburg, Germany that manages a portfolio of more than 600 magazines, over 400 digital products and 50 radio and TV stations around the world. The portfolio include sprint shops, postal, distribution and marketing services. Bauer Media Group has a workforce of approximately 11,000 employees in 17 countries.

Kerrang Magazine

Kerrang magazine is one of the music magazines that is published by Bauer media group. Kerrang is not just a magazine but also a TV channel and a radio station. It was first published on 6 June 1981 as a one-off supplement in the sounds newspaper and in the early 2000s it became the best-selling British music newspaper

The highest amount of magazines that kerrang has to date is 85,377. This was recoded between July 2006 and December 2006.

Publishing companies

IPC Media is the publisher of magazines including Marie Claire, NME and What’s on TV. I have decided that this company could also be a suitable publisher due to it being the publisher of NME magazine. NME is a music magazine which has a similar genre to mine and I think my magazine would be able to fit into this publishing company due to it being one of there only music magazines.

Time Inc. UK (formerly International Publishing Corporation and IPC Media), a wholly owned subsidiary of Time Inc., is a consumer magazine and digital publisher in the United Kingdom, with a large portfolio selling over 350 million copies each year.

Chosen publishing company:

From the two publishing companies that I have researched which were Bauer media group and IPC media, I have decided which company I would like to publish my magazine.

I have decided that Bauer Media Group would be the most suitable company to publish my magazine. I have decided this because it has experience with publishing other magazines that are similar to mine which are Kerrang and MOJO. For Kerrang magazine Bauer Media Group has given them a radio station and a TV channel which has made Kerrang magazine more popular. This could also be an area where my magazine could go into to increase how popular my magazine will be as well as increasing the sales.
