Who would be the audience for your media product?

Questions Four

Page 2: Evaluation part 3

Who would be the audience for your media product

AGE

It is targeted towards mainly 15 to 19 year olds as we feel as though they can relate most to our main character and would be more interested in

this type of costume ghost thrillers

Page 3: Evaluation part 3

Who would be the audience for your media product

GENDERWould be both male and female. Even though

the main character is a female, so boys would be less incline to be interested, are opening

sequence contains blood and costume ghost and boys usually like a scare, so therefore would

excite them and females as well

LOCATION/REIGIONRather than conventionally film it in America, we decided to locate in London as, the weather in America is warm, and sunny, whereas England is gloomy and raining. So therefore we could create that mood when establishing the setting

SOCIAL CLASS

Mostly working class and middle class, because its set in London which those social classes are more current and the language used would be formal with slang twists so possibly people of

high culture might not be aware of meanings of some words used.

ETHNICITY/NATIONALITYIt is targeted towards British and Irish people as that is where our film will be distributed, Also throughout the film it presents British culture

based around teenagers in relation to our audience

LIFESTYLE & HOBBIES/INTERESTSOur audience lifestyle would be possibly based around college or someone who's has spiritual

interests and likes to see unusual phenomena in modern Britain and the past from when we go

back into the past

Page 8: Evaluation part 3

Discuss why you are targeting them and how it relates to your idea

We will be targeting our audience by presenting a ghost film with abit more excitement than just

see things move on their own, to develop it into more costume, more blood and general

excitement for a younger audience

Page 9: Evaluation part 3

Discuss why you are targeting them and how it relates to your genre

We are targeting this audience by showing the trailers after school times so that they aren't missing the

advertisement to target the right age when they go to watch other thriller films which relates to our idea as our

genre is a thriller and therefore would be a genre that this audience will enjoy

Page 10: Evaluation part 3

Discuss why you are targeting them and how it relates to your forms/conventions

Through the forms and conventions we will be targeting are audience by getting them excited and thrilled by the

shock and climax, as teenagers love to challenge themselves to watch scary films and the special effects of

‘dream’ will present something ‘new’ to keep the interested

Page 11: Evaluation part 3

BBFC : What is your film rated and why? And relate to your target audience.

Our film is rated a 12 because our film’s

• horror doesn't exceed over moderate physical threat

• The slang language is moderate – no harsh swearing

• There is no nudity or drug use

• Gory moments are permitted by theme and context

Although out film is rated a 12, it is merely targeted towards the 15 –19 year olds as they will be more conscious of the past and in

representation on the social group, the use of more exaggerated themes would not represent it properly.

Page 12: Evaluation part 3

How did you attract/address your audience?

Questions Five

Page 13: Evaluation part 3

Prove how your target audience will be attracted to your opening sequence

• Fashion of main character

• Likeable character

• Interesting/scary ghost

• Location in working class Britain

• Spiritual

• The book – might have similar one

Page 14: Evaluation part 3

Watching the opening sequence –How are these are target audience

Page 15: Evaluation part 3

Interviews with individuals from the audience

Page 16: Evaluation part 3

Film a section on a list of things you did to attract/address your audience (forms&cons)

Page 17: Evaluation part 3

How we attracted our target audience by the idea

• It is based on real life, in London, so it will be similar with our audience

• It will attract our audience to learn about how spirits can play with our mind throughout the film and the interest of being scared

• The film is based in modern time and youth culture , use of slang so we’re creating empathy with the target audience – to describe situation in their way

Page 18: Evaluation part 3

How we attracted our target audience by the story, plot and narrative

• We attracted through story by basing it on a teenage girl rather than an adult and in a more realistic home rather then a really big one used conventionally

• We attracted through plot by making it about ghost that are physically in touch with the living and is engaging to the spiritual audience

• Through narrative because by using the open narrative, when the target audience leave the cinema and possibly go home together can deliberate on what they think will or wont happen – something to talk about

Page 19: Evaluation part 3

How we attracted our target audience by the conventions of genre

• We attracted through shock because teenagers are usually playful, and with shock being a conventions they will be excited to be frightened

• We attracted through supernatural because we developed the convention to make it more visually attractive to teenagers to that they will watch our film

Page 20: Evaluation part 3

How we attracted our target audience by the conventions of narrative

• We attracted through false ending because congenitally in a thriller narrative the ending is usually thought to be

resolved but is not – and the main character is left feeling everything is alright, when it is not.

So we are attaching the target audience by maintain the expected convention but in ways of not making it

obvious and more frightening and exciting

Page 21: Evaluation part 3

How we attracted our target audience by the conventions of character and their representations

• We attracted through venerable representation because target audience are most likely to sympathise and like your character if they are quiet and venerable as they seem sweet – so through this convention we use the

representation to like the character and want to find out if she become save/survives/concurs the ghosts

Page 22: Evaluation part 3

How we attracted a target audience by the forms

• We attracted through forms because the use of fast forward created that fast and climaxing feel of a thriller

to make the target audience jump and also the use of the ‘dream’ effect attracts the target audience visually while the use of non-diegetic sound will emphasise the eerie

feeling and creating suspense making the target audience suspicious of why this is happening

We used Youtube to look at films that can inspire us and analyse them. We also used Youtube to see how long other opening sequences are and then understand why that could be.

We used a website called Art of the Title to view the opening credits of a variety of films within our genre. We saw how different film genres had a distinct style of credits. Through this, we got an idea of how to adapt our credits to suit our genre.

Page 27: Evaluation part 3

All technology used in research

We used a website called IMDb to research films that were distributed by specific distribution companies. We also used the website to view the locations and budgets for these films, through this we were able to analyse and compare them.

Most importantly we used the DVD player to play many thriller films so that we could fully understand conventions and form so that we could form and create our opening sequence

Microsoft Powerpoint was a key technology that we used in brainstorming and planning. Through using Microsoft Powerpoint we were able to create slideshows with all our plans and ideas.

We used Google to search a variety of our ideas such as ‘being haunted’. Google directed us to the relevant websites which turned out to be very useful in our planning stages.

All technology used in blogs

Blogger was an essential technology that we used in the blog process. We were able to create, publish and edit blog posts throughout our AS Media Studies course using Blogger. We were able to make posts about what we have been doing and any changes we have made.

We used Slideshare to upload our assignments and then copied and pasted the embed code onto our blog posts. This enabled us to have our assignments on our blogs so that our teacher can assess our work easily.

We used a Sony Handycam to film our

preliminary task. We were able to film

our task using a variety of shots and

Angles, and learn how to film effectively

in order that the use of the camera is

controlled and framed well

We used the Mac computers to upload the task so that we could use the footage for a variety of different technical purposes. This was also our first chance to learn how to edit and select clips and edit sound

All technology used in Draft 1 - Final

We used iMovie to edit all the footage from the drafts. As editing was a large proportion of our construction marks, we spent a lot of time editing our footage on iMovie. Throughout until the final draft our editing has increased in quality from practice and with feedback helped us largely improve

We used Quicktime during all our drafts. After finishing editing each opening sequence. We converted it to Quicktime which enabled us to publish it onto Youtube, then to enable us to put it onto our media blog
