How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

• We uploaded the many different parts of our project to our blog www.group1advancedportfolio.blogspot.com . This is different from last years hand in method as it is entirely computerised. There are many positives and negatives for this but the main positive is that it is easily accessible for everyone, students and teachers alike. This means that the work can be constantly observed and evaluated by our group and our teachers to ensure it is a high standard.

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

• We also used websites such as www.youtube.com and www.slideshare.net to help showcase our work. The video has been featured on Youtube for a long time now and has met positive reaction and we have been offered many new ideas, should we repeat the project. The digitalisation of the project this year has so far proved to be immensely beneficial as we have made our work easily discussable as a group.

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

• Talk about the results from the questionnaires and interviews we did at the start of the course

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

• One of the key features of our products is using unconventional techniques and styles to help define the techno pop genre. This has been shown in our decision to film everything in reverse as this has only been featured in only a few music videos.

• We designed the products with a lot of dark colours in mind. This is shown in our final products which all feature dark colours. This helps us to create our own conventions for the artist that our target audience can relate to.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

How is our product similar to existing texts?

• Our music video is similar to a video by The Pharcyde called Drop. This shows that our idea can be done to a very high standard. We have used the style of this video as it is a popular and well known song and we wish to emulate the success of it.

• Our video also has an advert for another product at the end of the video. We feel this is a good feature as people watching the video will already be interested in the artist and will want to know about his other products. The best time to advertise other products is when they have just had a positive experience (watched the music video) and wish to have another.

• We were going to feature a logo of the artist but thought that it would take away from the gritty video we had just created.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms, conventions of real media products?

• We have followed the conventions of techno pop by making our video extremely unconventional by filming it in reverse.

• It is set in an urban environment with shops and other public features such as skate parks visible.

• The artist Slimist is our main character in our video helping the audience to identify and empathise more with his situation.

• We have used some similar camera angles from the music video ‘Glory Days’ by Just Jack. The main example of this is the close up on Just Jack’s face when he is singing along to his song. We have chosen to develop on this by doing an extreme close up on Slimist’s lips to help show that this matter is extremely close to him and important.
