This project involved in creating a sequence of audio clips to make a short radio style piece. The short audio clip had to be about a chosen object and a short or multiple interviews with people who describe the object. It was ideal if the chosen object made a distinctive sound. After researching into objects that make distinctive sounds we chose the Rubix Cube. I was working in a pair so roles were not exactly divided as we ended up doing most of the tasks together and simply consulted with each other. We both equally shared tasks in terms of research, planning and editing. However, I did do all the behind the scenes stuff such as taking pictures of them recording, the release form and planning out the possible interview questions. This project was quite hard for me as sound is probably my weakest point because I don’t know what is a ‘bad sound’ or ‘good sound’ and wouldn’t know what to do to make an audio clip sound good. However despite this, I did enjoy the editing stage as I didn’t realise how many changes can be made with one sound clip just by using effects. Additionally, when recording using the Tascam portable digital recorder, I found understanding the difference settings and mic settings difficult and this was vital as every different settings meant that the recording will be done differently. Overall, this project was better than I expected as the brief was simple and didn’t need to go out of the way for it, for example finding sound which is hard to get or even impossible. Additionally, as a pair, we managed time well and got everything done within time. The key was to record properly, in a quiet area with very little or no surrounding sounds so not much effects is needed to be added to the audio clip when editing. If I was to improve or do this particular project again, I would like to have a better understanding on what Adobe Audition has to offer as I was still unclear on what certain effects do and how they work which meant a lot of our time was spent in researching and looking at tutorials online.
