Evaluation 2: How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Through my starts image and personality and wanted to deploy a gangster rap theme. I tried to portray this by creating a confrontational atmosphere as the R&B rap genre is about whos wealthier than the other and who can rap the best at what they do. This was done by me showing off the tattoos of my start to create a confrontational look. Also as you can see from the exemplar magazines from XXL, both rappers have their trousers sagged which is a nonverbal gangster way of showing superiority and that youre not a push over. Normally artists wear designer boxers to show their wealth and I done this by making my artist wear Ralph Lauren boxers. I made sure my artist had chains on and a flashy watch. All these props were used to appeal to the young men (18 30) who came from less fortunate neighbourhoods. Even though women could have an interest in this the R&B genre is something that is more male dominated and when females are used on front cover they have a more sexual appeal. Furthermore, I made my artist have a direct gaze to the audience to perhaps create an interaction between the reader and the star as if they are almost with each other. Due to being of less fortunate backgrounds I did portray my start to be arrogant as men like this are very arrogant with the wealth they had as they wasnt born with a silver spoon and didnt have the chance to be guaranteed free meals a day. This direct gaze was used to have an effect that the reader can also make something out of their life too even if its not through music. As you can see from my picture on the right I done all the necessary editing to make sure my artist stood out on my contents page and I took the shot at a long show to make sure all elements of designer clothing. His shoulders were slouched to show his arrogance as if he is something above other and what they should aspire to be and this links to the social groups as these were the type of men who they would look to when growing up as they can relate the lifestyle of coming from nothing to something. I think that my magazine can represent my chosen social group simply through the general style. There is a strict consistent use of colour on each of my pages which relates to the sense of danger and wealth that can be easily associated with my target audience because of their connotations. I would think that my magazine employs the necessary conventions that allow it to act as a good representation of the audience. I had to think carefully about what I needed to include and how these features would affect the way I was trying to put the magazine across to the audience; this really was a key think to consider.
