FAIR & FESTIVAL CHAIRMAN, ADRIAN AHERNOn Behalf of Ballinasloe F&F, I would like to welcome visitors from near and far to Ballinasloe for our international Horse Fair. We have an Eight-day extravaganza of all things equestrian, with entertainment, music and great family fun. Country music star Mike Denver will officially open the Fair @ 3pm on Sunday 4th. I would like to congratulate our 2015 Queen Rachel walker and wish her very success in the year ahead.

Events organised by the Fair & Festival committee this year include the Queen of Fair, Tug of War, Food & Craft Market, Dog Show, Fireworks, Equestrian events such as Horse / Pony / Cob of the Fair Competitions. The F&F committee also host the Art / Craft / Baking competitions as well as newer events such as the Soapbox Derby and sheaf throwing.

New for 2015 the F&F committee have organised music and entertainment to coincide with the Fireworks display on Friday the 9th October. This family event will start at 7.30pm in the car park adjacent to St Michaels Church and includes music on the festival soundstage, face painting and a few surprises and will conclude with the monster fireworks display @ 8.30pm.

Planning our events takes time, financing them is more difficult. I would like to thank all of our sponsors without their support the festival could not take place. It’s important that the community of Ballinasloe are aware that the F&F committee is just one of the stake holders of the October Fair. Our events are primarily festival activities. The coordinating committee under the auspices of Galway CoCo facilitate the other events mainly on the fair green. Galway County Council also organise and collect the fees from the trading activities on the streets and catering stalls and the funfair.

Ballinasloe Show host a one day show in the show grounds. Ballinasloe Fair & Festival host a variety of events and activities over an eight day period, all free events, and all for the benefit of the economy and people of Ballinasloe.

I would like to thank in particular Galway County council and An Gardai Siochana for the support that they give our committee, without it the festival element of the fair could not take place. Thanks also to the Civil Defence, ISPCA and Vets, Ballinasloe vintage club and Ballinasloe Musical Society for their help with the Soundstage and Singing-Pub competition.

Finally I would like to acknowledge the support of the people of the town and apologise for any inconvenience I hope you enjoy Ballinasloe Fair & Festival 2015 and look forward to seeing you out and about in Ballinasloe during the week.
