WELCOME TO EUROJUNIOR PALMA 2006

Constituye un inmenso honor para Palma el hecho de que la Liga Europea de Natación siga confiando en nuestra ciudad para albergar otra más de sus competiciones. En esta ocasión se nos brinda una nueva oportunidad con la celebración en las piscinas municipales de Son Hugo del Campeonato Europeo Júnior de Natación y Saltos 2006.

Estoy convencida de que Palma y sus ciudadanos acogerán a todos los participantes y acompañantes con los brazos abiertos. Del 1 al 9 de Julio del 2006, la Capital de las Islas Baleares se convertirá en el centro de todas las miradas gracias a la confianza de la LEN que nos permite demostrar de nuevo nuestra capacidad de organización.

Palma ha estado trabajando duro para poder ser la sede de este campeonato Europeo y mucha gente ha puesto todo su esfuerzo e ilusión en preparar una estancia inolvidable para cada uno de los deportistas y sus respectivos acompañantes. Las instalaciones municipales siempre han rayado a un gran nivel en las diferentes competiciones que han acogido en los últimos años y su calidad es reconocida y elogiada por todos aquellos que han tenido oportunidad de disputar pruebas en sus piscinas. No tengo ninguna duda de que los nadadores participantes van a ofrecernos un magnífico espectáculo deportivo y que todos quienes acudamos a esta cita deportiva vamos a disfrutar de le belleza y plasticidad de este deporte olímpico.

It represents a great honour for Palma the fact that the European Swimming League continues to count on our city to host yet another of their competitions. In this occasion we are given a new opportunity of commemorating the Junior European Championship of Swimming and Diving 2006 in the municipal swimming pools of Son Hugo. I am convinced that the citizens of Palma will receive all the participants and companions with open arms. Between the 1st and 9th of July 2006, the Capital of the Balearic Islands will become the centre of all the attention thanks to the trust which has been placed on us, and which again allows us to demonstrate our organizational capabilities. Palma has been working hard to be the host of this European championship and a lot of people have put considerable effort and illusion to prepare an unforgettable stay for each and every one of the sportsmen and women as well as their respective companions. The municipal facilities have always been of the highest standards during the different competitions which have taken place there in recent years and their quality is recognized and praised by all those who have had the opportunity of competing in their pools. I have no doubt that the participating swimmers will offer a terrific sporting spectacle and that all of us who attend this sporting occasion will enjoy the beauty and plasticity of this Olympic sport.

Es para mi una gran satisfacción como Consellera de Presidència i Esports del Govern de les Illes Balears que Palma de Mallorca haya sido elegida la sede del Campeonato de Europa Junior de Natación y Saltos 2006, y me siento especialmente orgullosa de nuestras instalaciones deportivas, como las de Son Hugo que año tras año acogen acontecimientos deportivos al mas alto nivel tanto nacional como internacional.

Estoy segura que la Ciudad de Palma será una magnífica anfitriona ,donde los deportistas, acompañantes, técnicos y asistentes en general se sentirán como en casa, ya que este es nuestro deseo, crear un clima de deportividad y compañerismo muy especial, que haga de este mes de julio una cita con la natación inolvidable.

As the Consellera de Presidencia i Esports of the Balearic Islands,it is a great satisfaction for me that Palma de Mallorca has been chosen to hold the Junior European Diving and Swimming Championships 2006, and I feel especially proud of our sporting installations, such as Son Hugo which year after year hosts sporting events both national and international of the highest level. I am sure that the City of Palma will be an excellent host, where competitors, delegates, and visitors will feel at home, as this is our desire, to create a very special climate of sportsmanship and companionship, so that this month of July will have an unforgettable swimming and diving competition. It is a great pleasure for me to welcome all participants to the European Junior Swimming and Diving Championships which represents a great Event for the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation, always ready for the organization of international events.

Once again Palma de Mallorca, together with the Balearics Public Institutions and the always available Balearic Swimming Federation, turns into the European sports capital, in the disciplines of swimming and diving.

I want to thank LEN for his support and confidence and all institutions that have made possible the organization of this European Junior Championships, which athletes will be the starts of the near future.

I greet all visitors to Palma, both athletes and people wanting to enjoy the running of the competition and its attractive tourist, cultural and leisure offer.

Bienvenidos a este encuentro, que deseo que esté marcado por la hermandad propia que nos une a cuantos amamos el deporte o a los que de una manera u otra lo practicamos. La Federación Balear de Natación acoge con mucha satisfacción el Campeonato de Europa Junior de natación y saltos que se celebrará el próximo mes de Julio en Mallorca.

La actividad deportiva como afición plantea una serie de exigencias fundamentales para el progreso de cualquier actividad humana: constancia en el esfuerzo, afán de superación, espíritu de equipo y valoración hacia el buen trabajo. La participación es consustancial al deporte y permite contar con una base social de la que se nutre el deporte de alto nivel y constituye, por tanto, uno de los pilares fundamentales del éxito deportivo. Así pues, competiciones como el Campeonato Europeo Junior, donde los protagonistas son personas que practican el deporte como una actividad saludable y de ocio, son esenciales. Es evidente que en la actualidad el deporte ha dejado de ser una actividad reservada a unos pocos y ha entrado a formar parte los hábitos de a población. Hoy en día, el deporte se ha convertido en un fenómeno económico y social de gran importancia donde, afortunadamente, la cultura deportiva es un modelo de hacer y sentir de gran parte de la población.

Sería difícil encontrar un lugar más apropiado que nuestras islas para llevar a cabo este encuentro, prueba evidente los lugar que ocupa nuestra tierra en el horizonte mundial y del constante esfuerzo realizado desde esta federación que aunque pequeña muy acostumbrada a preparar competiciones tanto de índole nacional como internacional. Con el deseo de que esta competición entre nadadores sirva de ejemplo del valor que atesoran el esfuerzo personal, la constancia, el respeto a las reglas del juego y el trabajo en equipo, suerte a todos los participantes.

Welcome to this event, that I wish will be remembered for uniting all of us who love sports or to all of those that one way or another practice them. The Balearic Swimming Federation hosts with a lot of enthusiasm the Junior European Swimming and Diving Championship that will take place next July in Mallorca.

The sport activity as a hobby brings up many fundamental requirements for the progress of any human activity: perseverance, willing of getting better, team work and appreciating the efforts. Participation is coexistent with sport and it allows counting on a social base of witch the high level sports are supplying and it is, therefore, in one of the main pillars of sport success. This way, it is essential to have competitions such as the European Junior Championship, where the protagonists are people who practice sports as a healthy activity and as a hobby.It is evident that nowadays sport is no longer an activity reserved to a few and it has became part of the habits of the general population. Currently, sport is an economic and social phenomenon of great significance where, fortunately, the sport´s culture is a way of life for many people.

It would be hard to find a better place than our islands for this event to take place, evident proof of its geographic location worldwide and the constant effort made by this federation that even though being small, it is used to hosting national and international competitions. Hoping that this competition between swimmers gives an example of the importance of the personal effort, the persistence, the respect of the rules of the game and the team work, I wish good luck to all the participants.

La propuesta de mascota es Vell Marí, un singular personaje, extraído del Logotipo del Instituto Municipal del Deporte del Ayuntamiento de Palma. Al ser un campeonato de natación y saltos proponemos crear una imagen que sea fácilmente aplicable a ambas disciplinas acuáticas.

The mascot proposal is Vell Mari (Mallorcan seal), a unique carácter, taken of the logo of the Municipal Institute of Sports. Bearing in mind that it is a swimming and diving championship we suggest the creation of an image which is easily applicable to both aquatic disciplines.

DIVING INFORMATION

To remember to the Federations submitting Divers and

Officials entries

1. Competition Format for Group “B”:

Remember that according to new FINA Rules (D.A.G. 3.2.2),

competition Group “B” Boys 1m and 3m shall comprise 9

dives (5+4), and Group “B” Boys platform shall comprise 8

dives (4+4).

Also to remember that in platform events, Boys/Girls Group

“B” could dive 5m – 7,5m and also 10m.

2. Judges nominated by Federations:

Remember that LEN Rule J-D 7.4 for the European Diving

Junior Championships is to consider updated as follow:

“Federations entering four (4) or more divers are obliged to

nominate at least one (1) judge qualified on the current A-list of

FINA and/or LEN .

A Federation not providing a judge in the category prescribed

shall pay a fine of a one thousand (1000) Euro to LEN in

addition to the fine of one hundred and fifty (150) Euro

according to Rule E 11.3 (LEN General Events Rule).”
