Iнститут геології та геофізики (Геологорозвідувальний факультет) заснований у 1951 році при Львівському політехнічному інституті. В 1957 році кафедри факультету увійшли до складу Нафтового факультету, а у 1964 році, після утворення Івано-Франківської філії Львівського політехнічного інституту, факультет був вдруге виділений в окремий структурний підрозділ.

The Institute of Geology and Geophysics (Geological Intelligence Faculty) was founded in 1951 at the Lviv Polytechnic

Institute. In 1957 the faculty departments became part of the Oil Department. In 1964, after the formation of the Ivano-Frankivsk branch of the Lviv Polytechnic Institute, the faculty was again allocated in a separate structural subdivision.

У інституті готуємо фахівців спеціальності "Науки про Землю" за спеціалізаціями:

At the institute we train specialists in the field of "Earth Sciences" in specialties:

• Geology of oil and gas;

• Geophysics with opportuinity for students to choice the respective units of study:

Geophysical methods of searching and explorationing,

Geophysical studies of wells,

Geophysical outfit and equipment.

• Geoinformatics

До послуг студентів діють два інститутські комп'ютерні класи, де майбутні фахівців оволодівають сучасними

комп'ютерними системами обробки та аналізу геолого-геофізичної інформації. У інституті спільно із фірмою Шлюмберже

створено тренажерний комп'ютерний клас, де студенти навчаються роботі із сучасними комп'ютерними програми Petrel.

PetroMod, Promax. За міжнародною програмою стажування "IAESTE" студенти інституту кожного року

проходять стажування у наукових та навчальних закладах багатьох країн світу, а саме: Польщі, Німеччини, Франції,

Словенії, Греції, Канади, Норвегії, Великобританії.

There are two computer classes for students in this institute, where future specialists can master the modern computer

systems of processing and analysing geological and geophysical information. In the institute, together with the Schlumberger

company, a computer simulator was created, where students are studying with modern computer programs, such as Petrel.

PetroMod, Promax. According to the international internship program "IAESTE", students of the institute each year receive

internships in scientific and educational institutions of many countries around the world: Poland, Germany, France, Slovenia,

Greece, Canada, Norway and Great Britain.

Анотація: Галузь геології, що вивчає дані про послідовність найважливіших подій в історії Землі. Всі геологічні науки в тій чи іншій мірі мають історичний характер, історичні геологи розглядають існуючі утворення в історичному аспекті і займаються в першу чергу з'ясуванням історії формування сучасних структур. Історія планети Земля розділяється на два найбільші етапи.

Course description: The branch of geology, which studies data on the sequence of the most important events in the history of the Earth. All geological sciences in one way or another have a historical character, historical geologists consider existing education in the historical aspect and deal primarily with the clarification of the history of the formation of modern structures. The history of the Earth is divided into two major stages.

Вивченням порід, утворених у процесах, пов'язаних з атмосферою, біосферою та гідросферою Землі, займається літологія. Ці породи не зовсім точно називаються ще осадовими гірськими породами. Багаторічномерзлі гірські породи набувають ряд характерних властивостей та особливостей, вивченням яких займається геокріологія.

Course description: The section of geology that studies minerals, questions of their origin, qualifications. Studies of rocks formed in processes associated with the atmosphere, biosphere and hydrosphere of the Earth, is engaged in lithology. These rocks are not exactly called still sedimentary rocks. Permafrost rocks acquire a number of characteristic properties and features studied by geocriology.

Course description: The course Geology with the basics of geomorphology aims to give students current knowledge of the composition, structure and history of the Earth's development, patterns and sequence of the formation of rocks, mineral deposits, changes in physical and geographical conditions and the history of organic life on Earth. The aim of the course is to acquire students theoretical representations of modern geological science, as well as to acquire practical skills in the determination of minerals, rocks, conditions of their formation, occurrence and distribution, depending on the structure of the earth's crust.

Розглядаються питання використання бітумінозних сланців як енергетичної сировини.

Значна увага приділяється практичним навикам з обґрунтування підрахункових параметрів, оцінювання точності підрахунку ресурсів і запасів нафти і газу, та оформленню текстової частини, графічних і табличних додатків до звітів відповідно до існуючих вимог і нормативної бази.

Course description: studying the mineral reserves and resources, their classification and methods of calculating the resources and reserves of oil, free and dissolved gas and condensate.
