Dear Church Members and Friends,
Thank you so much for your love and support during this “not so normal” time in the life of our
church. As your pastor and church staff, we are seeking to do all we are able during this time with different
demands on our time and different needs in the life of the church. I have shared with you several times that
changes in worship and church needs have created a difficult learning curve. I would now compare it to the
Mako roller coaster at Sea World which I have only heard about and never intend to ride!
But somehow with God’s help we are navigating through this scary, demanding, uncertain, ever
changing time. With God’s help we will get through. We are called to continue to trust and hold onto God
even when it feels like the twists and turns and ups and downs are going to throw us out over the theme park!
We are having church! I am so very thankful for the physical set up we have outside Hardin Hall. It is
perfect for outdoor worship! I am so thankful for the talents and commitment of those who are leading
worship, helping with parking, being ushers at the end of the drive and helping in so many new ways! We are
blessed to be able to come together in blended worship with both old and new styles of music. I am so
thankful for all those who share their God-given talents. We are blessed to have musicians and singers and
liturgists who so willingly share with us each Sunday. For a short time, we will be together in worship
outside. Enjoy these days. Thank God for them. When this time ends, we will go back to two services and to
the style of worship we prefer. But for a brief time, we are together. Enjoy this time. I am so thankful for this
opportunity to worship together in a strange, different, yet wonderful way! So please find ways to encourage
and thank our staff and volunteers for their extra hours, labors of love, the efforts we see and the ones behind
the scenes!
Next Sunday is Pentecost and the beginning of a three-week sermon series called, Healing and Hope.
We have all experienced struggles and losses. We are in the middle of a pandemic! God’s Word offers us
stories of hope and healing from God’s people even when they were also in the middle of struggles.
Wear red to church on Sunday for our celebration of Pentecost. God’s people are called out to assemble
with a common purpose. The church is not a building. The church is not a denomination. The church is God’s
people called out for a purpose by God! We will assemble the best we can and worship together six feet apart
Under the Palms. We will assemble however possible in cars or online and be the assembly, the ecclesia, the
church!
In addition to worship we are coming together for a movie night this week. I Still Believe is the title of
a movie that came out in 2020. The movie case says it is “the uplifting true-life story of Christian music
megastar Jeremy Camp. This inspiring tale follows Jeremy’s search for his artistic voice leading him to his
wildest professional dreams, as well as the love of his life. But Jeremy’s hope and faith are put to the test
when tragedy strikes. I Still Believe is an incredible story of musical stardom, the heights of love, the depths
of loss and the healing power of the human spirit.” The film stars KJ Apa, Britt Robertson, Shania Twain,
and Gary Sinise. We are showing this inspiring movie “drive-in style” at church on Friday night, May 29 at
8 p.m. Popcorn provided, bring your own soda. If you prefer a matinee or if that Friday time is too late for
you, we will have a small showing on Tuesday, June 2nd in the Choir Room. It will be shown at 1:00 p.m.
Seating is limited due to social distancing and you must make a reservation by calling the church office by
Monday at Noon. We are not publicizing Friday night movie events to the general public but you are
welcome to invite guests.
We are the called assembly with a common purpose to share Jesus and to love one another. Join us
this week for these opportunities to be “together”.
In Service with and for Christ,
Pastor Donna
