Prayers for the Sick and Dying The Divine Mercy Chaplet is one of the best means of assisting the dying. Jesus revealed the power of this prayer to St. Faustina. The Lord gave many promises regarding recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet for the sick and/or dying.

There are parishioners who regularly pray the chaplet. We have a prayer chain and are accepting prayer requests.

If you are interested in joining the prayer chain, please contact Bea Harrigan at (973) 827-0083. If you have a special prayer request, or prayers for a loved one who is sick and/or dying, you may call Bea Harrigan, Cheryl Avery at (973) 702-1342, or Denise Drogo at (973) 875-6863.

Parish Business Manager Listing

St. Francis de Sales parish is seeking a parish business manager. This person is a professional administrator who will assist the Pastor with the stewardship of the physical, financial and personnel resources of the parish. This work includes, but is not limited to: data and records management, phone and email support, supplies and inventory management, communications work, managing use of church space by parish and outside groups, supporting church ministries and committees, and collaborating with volunteers to achieve the objectives of Saint Francis de Sales Parish. For more information please see our parish website under the “Our Parish” tab. Please submit cover letters and resumes to Fr. Chris Barkhausen at [email protected]

Dear Friends, As we approach the middle of summer, I hope you are all staying well and enjoying some of the sunny weather, while staying cool during the hots days we have been experiencing. The writer of Ecclesiastes tell us, “There is an appointed time for everything, and a time for every affair under the heavens. A time to give birth, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to uproot the plant. A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to tear down, and a time to build. A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance. A time to scatter stones, and a time to gath-er them; a time to embrace, and a time to be far from embraces” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-5). This helps us realize that there is a time for all things, and change while not always easy, is part of God’s plan for us all. In this spirit, I’d like to mention a change we will experience here at St. Francis de Sales as I announce that Joanne Matthes our office manager is retiring. Joanne has been an integral part of our parish for the last 37 years as a parishioner and 25 years on our parish staff. Her contributions, hard work, commitment, dedication, and sacrifices for our parish have been nothing short of extraordinary. You may have interacted with Joanne through her being an usher or seen her handiwork as part of the Art and Environment ministry for the last 30 years. Your children may have been taught by her in 2nd grade or their sacramental liturgies might have been coordinated by her. Joanne has been the Chair of our ministry advisory board for the last 25 years and helped organize our parish stewardship renewal each year. As the office manag-er she helped manage the office staff and assist the clergy in the administration of the parish as well as coordinate the major liturgical celebrations of the parish from Holy Week to Christmas, funerals and holy days. These are but a few examples of how she has contributed over the years, since truly Joanne has been involved in almost every aspect of the life of our parish. While Joanne will be remaining here in Vernon at St. Francis de Sales it would be unjust not to recognize Joanne for all that she has done for our parish both publicly and behind the scenes. For that on behalf of the parish family, I would like to publicly thank Joanne for blessing she has been to our parish community. We wish her well and pray that she enjoys a well-deserved rest from laboring in the Lord’s vineyard. -Fr. Chris

TOPIC: An intro to Virtue, allowing us to do the difficult good with ease. Today most people think of moral theology as the study of which acts are sinful and which are allowed, however this views the study from the viewpoint of the negative (i.e what’s not good). The study of morality, at it’s best, looks at our destiny to fulfil God’s plan for us, that is, to be with Him in heaven. Morality isn’t a rejection of the body, or the belief that we should fight against the body, but rather morality should facilitate a harmony between the Body and Soul. This is the purpose of morality. The goal of these talks will be to gain a new way

of looking at morality and how it relates both to your overall purpose in the world, and destiny for Heaven.

Sacrament of Confirmation: News from Paterson Diocese February 3, 2020

Bishop Serratelli has granted us permission to lower the age of receiving Confirmation starting in our 2020 -2021 school year to grade 8. Receiving Confirmation earlier will enable high school students to better participate in our parish community by serving as Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, and Youth ministry to name a few. As next school year will be the transition year, provisions will be made to have grades 8, 9 and 10 also con-firmed here at St. Francis de Sales. We trust this change will greatly benefit the young people of our parish. Please contact Petrina Garrity, if you would like to have your child return after a break in their Religious Education.

Spiritual Adoption Development update:

29 Weeks /7 MOS. Pregnant: Your Baby's Development

Your little one is getting ready to meet

you! She's starting to gain weight more

quickly. During the last two and a half

months of your pregnancy, she'll continue

to put on more padding and will likely

double her current weight. Your baby-to-be is now over 14½ inches long

and weighs 2¾ pounds, and he or she is rapidly growing.

Prayer:

Jesus, Mary and Joseph I love you very much.

I beg you to spare the life

Of the unborn child that I have spiritually adopted who is

in danger of abortion. - Bishop Fulton J. Sheen

Won’t you please “spiritually adopt” one and share the love for life that God has given you?

Can you make time to pray everyday for a child’s life?
