EUBra-BIGSEA Objectives
• Objectives:― The development of advanced cloud services to support Big
Data.― The development of innovative Big Data services for capturing,
federating and annotating large volumes of data.― The use of innovative and efficient technologies for
guaranteeing the fulfilment of the security and privacy policies.― The transfer of this technology to a real user scenario with high
social and business impact, and of high interest for both EU and BR.
― The dissemination and subsequent uptake of the results and identification of business opportunities.

BIGSEA Ambitious Workplan
• BIGSEA is structured along 7 (+ Project coordination) activities defined as WPs.
• User Scenario will make use of the Data Analytics API provided by the Programming model interface.
• The Programming mode interface will define the services using TOSCA standard
― Service specifications will be instantiated on a cloud IaaS, automatically managing Quality of Service.
― The BigData Analytics services will run on the cloud infrastructure.
• A security framework will be defined to provide security and privacy.
• Globally, dissemination and exploitation activities will pursue the outreach and transfer of technology.

International Synergies
• QoS IaaS infrastructure with proactive policies for Vertical and Horizontal elasticity
― Exploiting expertise of UFCG and UFMG in the policies with the cloud brokering service from UPV.
― Joint work on the extension of TOSCA standard for Data elasticity, leveraging POLIMI positioning in the committees.
• Exposing these features on a cloud-friendly Programming Framework― COMPSs from BSC and OPHIDIA from CMCC will be enriched with QoS capabilities.― UFMG and UTFPR will develop a use case on top of it.
• Efficient Security and Privacy capabilities in BigData will be incorporated to the infrastructure and programming models
― UNICAMP and UC will cooperate on the development of such services.
• International-level business analysis ― By means of TRUST-IT and IBM.

Practical Contributions• A BigData Analytics platform
― A QoS layer for IaaS, agnostic to the cloud provider (including containers), with automatic horizontal and vertical elasticity
― Customized for BigData applications― A privacy and security framework suitable for performing efficiently on Big
Data applications.― A programming model bridging to data analytics and QoS functionality,
independent of the IaaS provider.
• A real use case implemented on top of the platform for the analysis of data from massively connected societies.
• Transfer of the technology to external projects, institutions or entities.
― The technology will be released under Open-Source licenses.― An international research community on Clouds and Big Data.
