Descriptive Annex 1 NAME AND TYPE OF INSTRUMENT

This family of instruments is designated the Torrey L-EQ Series (Figure 1) and comprises different models. The instruments are Class III, mains or battery-powered, self-indicating, single-interval, non-automatic weighing instruments.

The instruments may be used for direct sales to the public.

2 FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

2.1 Construction

2.1.1 Main features

− Stainless steel construction − Stainless steel load receptor − Operator’s keypad with 9 keys − Front display (Figure 2) − Level indicator under the load receptor − Adjustable feet

2.1.2 Devices

− Initial zero setting device (≤ 20% of Max) − Semi-automatic zero setting device (≤ 4% of Max) − Zero tracking device (≤ 4% of Max) − Zero indicator (ZERO) − Semi-automatic subtractive tare balancing − Net indicator (NET) − Checkweighing − HIGH / LOW annunciators

2.1.3 Load cell

The load cell fitted in the instrument is a Medidata model M022, Emax as described in section 3.2.

2.2 Operation

2.2.1 Switch-on

At switch-on, a display test is performed to ensure that the displays have no defect.

2.2.2 Zero-tracking

Zero tracking operates provided that the instrument is within range of not more than 4% of maximum capacity.

2.2.3 Semi-automatic zero setting

The zero button operates provided that the instrument is within range of not more than 4% of maximum capacity.

2.2.4 Over-range and under-range

If the load is less than gross zero, then the display shows a “NEG” sign. The instrument prevents weight indications below zero with error message “NEG”.

The instruments is set to display weight up to nine divisions above Max. At greater loads the display shows “OVRLO” error message with warning sound.

2.2.5 Tare

Semi-automatic subtractive tare balancing can be performed, the net indicator “NET” is on when a tare is active. Tare will be cancelled by pressing “TARE” or “ZERO” when there is no load on the load receptor.

2.2.6 Checkweighing

High and low weight limits can be set. When the weight is less than the set low limit or more than the set high limit, the appropriate annunciator is lit.

3 TECHNICAL DATA

3.1 Rated operating conditions

The instruments operate on a 230 Vac (50 Hz) mains power supply via a CE-marked adaptor. The instruments also operate on an integrated rechargeable 4 V, 2.5 Ah battery. The battery can be recharged during operation.

The temperature range for the instruments is -10 °C / +40 °C.

3.2 Metrological characteristics

Model name L-EQ-4/8 L-EQ-8/16 L-EQ-10/20 L-EQ-20/40 Max 4 kg 8 kg 10 kg 20 kg Min 20 g 40 g 100 g 200 g e = 1 g 2 g 5 g 5 g n 4000 4000 2000 4000 T ≤ - 4 kg - 8 kg - 10 kg - 20 kg Load cell Emax 5 kg 10 kg 10 kg 20 kg

3.3 Software identification

The software identification shall be “L19L5”. The full software version number can be displayed by pressing “TARE” and “PRINT” at power up. The legally relevant parameters (calibration and configuration) are accessible by pressing buttons in a sequence and then entering a passcode. Two non-editable counters, designated calibration counter CA.XXX and configuration counter CF.XXX, increment every time the legally relevant parameters are changed. The value of the counter can be displayed by pressing “TARE” and “ZERO” at power up. Download of software is prevented by sealing the enclosure (Section 6.2).

3.4 Documentation and drawings

The instruments are fully described in the technical file held at NMO.

4 PERIPHERAL DEVICES AND INTERFACES

4.1 Interfaces

The instrument may have the following interface type:

− RS232 − Tare footswitch connector

4.2 Peripheral devices The instrument may be connected to any peripheral device that has been issued with Parts (Test) Certificate by a Notified Body responsible for Module B under Directive 2014/31/EU and bears the CE marking of conformity to the relevant directives; or A peripheral device without a Parts (Test) certificate may be connected under the following conditions:

− it bears the CE marking for conformity to the EMC Directive; − it is not capable of transmitting any data or instruction into the weighing

instrument, other than to release a printout, checking for correct data transmission or validation;

− it prints weighing results and other data as received from the weighing instrument without any modification or further processing; and

− it complies with the applicable requirements of EN45501, i.e. 4.2, 4.4, 4.6 and 4.7.

A printing device may print additional information such as date or number to identify the printed weighing result(s) or sets of weighing results. 5 APPROVAL CONDITIONS

This certificate is issued subject to the following conditions:

5.1 Inscriptions

5.1.1 The instrument shall bear the following inscriptions on or near the display: Max Min e =

5.1.2 The instrument shall bear the following inscriptions (Figure 3):

− CE marking − Supplementary metrology marking − Identification number of the notified body involved in the production control

phase − Number of the EU-type examination certificate − Manufacturer’s name, registered trade name or registered trade mark and

postal address − Accuracy class

− Type, batch or serial number and, when applicable:

− for instruments consisting of separate but associated units: identification mark on each unit;

− scale interval if it is different from e, in the form d = …; − maximum additive tare effect, in the form T = + …; − maximum subtractive tare effect if it is different from Max, in the form T = – …; − tare interval if it is different from d, in the form dT = …; − maximum safe load if it is different from Max, in the form Lim …; − the special temperature limits, in the form … oC/… oC; − ratio between load receptor and load.

The markings and inscriptions shall fulfil the requirements of Article 6, Article 16, Article 17 and Point 1 of Annex III of Directive 2014/31/EU.

6 LOCATION OF SEALS AND VERIFICATION MARKS

6.1 The tamper-resistant data plate is secured, either by sealing or by being of a form such that it is destroyed when removed.

6.2 Access to the electronics and load cell is prevented by sealing the enclosure as shown in Figure 4.

The sealing must bear an official mark, which may be either:

− a mark of the manufacturer and/or manufacturer’s representative, or − an official mark of a verification officer.

6.3 The values of the counters defined in Section 3.3 must be written on a tamper-evident label.

7 ALTERNATIVES

7.1 Having the instruments manufactured by the following company (with alternative front display layouts, Figure 5):

Sammic S.L. Basarte 1 20720 - Azkoitia, Gipuzkoa Spain

7.2 Having alternative instruments designated the L-EQ-m/n-P series, which have the same metrological characteristics but with a different stainless-steel load receptor (Figure 6).
