3. SUMMARY

This TS-Note is valid if the ETPx unit has raised a 3515 alarm like below:

** ALARM ETPx-3-0 1A002-03 DPALAR

(0546) 3515 ETP ETHERNET INTERFACE FAILURE

IM0 0060

The supplementary info 0060 means that both directions are down. The info may have also a different value.

0020 SGMII – RX_LOS

0040 SGMII – TX_FAULT

4. DETAILED DESCRIPTION

IM0 is a backplane Ethernet interface of an ETP plug-in unit (C111826). It is in use with ETP functional unit types that support HW redundancy (ETPC/E/T). When HW redundancy is used a direct cable is installed between the unit pair connecting the IM0 interfaces together. The interface is used for warming of the idle pair unit during controlled switchover. There has been incidents that the IM0 interface has failed. Please try the following solutions when analyzing if the ETP plug-in unit is faulty. 1. Check that ETP plug-in unit has an up-to-date SW in the flash. 2. Reset the ETH-PHY (QUAD-PHY) circuit that implements the IM0. 3. Restart the ETPx functional unit 4. Pull out and re-insert the ETP plug-in unit.

5. SOLUTION / INSTRUCTIONS

5.1 Check that ETP plug-in unit has an up-to-date SW in the flash.

The ETP flash SW version can be checked with MML command, example: WDM:UT=ETPE,MODE=ACTIVE; WDM:UT=ETPE,MODE=STANDBY; Compare the version of GGNETPET.PAC with the one included in the running SW package in the disks. Upgrade the ETP flash if necessary following the instructions in BSC release documentation/Plug-in unit SW upgrade.

5.2 Reset the ETH-PHY (QUAD-PHY) circuit that implements the IM0.

If both ETP flashes (active and standby) have the correct SW version follow following steps to reset the ETH-PHY. ETP unit can be in TE, BL or WO state: a. Open an ETP service terminal session to the ETP unit that has raised the 3515 alarm. b. Read the BE-FPGA register 0x10 using following ETP ST command: bfpga read 0x10 This will give the BE-FPGA register contents, e.g., ------------------------------------------------------------ ----> Command bfpga executed on [5/12/2012 17:24:19:244731] <---- ------------------------------------------------------------ Data read @ 0x10 is 0x40a0000 c. Now set the bit 0 of this register using following ETP ST command: bfpga write 0x10 <REGISTER_VALUE> Here REGISTER_VALUE to be BITWISE OR of register value read in step (b) and 0x1, e.g. bfpga write 0x10 0x40a0001 d. Now check whether bit 0 of BE-FPGA register is actually set or not. This can be done using following ETP ST command: bfpga read 0x10 e. Now reset the bit 0 of this register using following ETP ST command: bfpga write 0x10 <REGISTER_VALUE> Change the ETP unit state to WO-EX. See that system has canceled the 3515 alarm and

that it’s not set again. If the alarms still exist, try the same ST procedure with the pair

ETP unit.

5.3 Restart the ETPx functional unit

If after steps in ch 5.2 the ETPx unit still fails (i.e. is not stable in WO-EX state) restart the ETPx units.

5.4 Pull out and re-insert the ETP plug-in unit.

If the alarm is still active after trying the steps in previous chapters try to pull out and re-insert the ETP plug-in unit.

5.5 Replace the unit.

If above steps does not solve the problem replace the unit and send for repair.
