You have just been appointed to the board of directors of XYZ.com.
Unfortunately, the company has been experiencing some difficult financial
times, resulting in revenue losses in three of the last four quarters. As you
assume your ne position, you discover that to proposals are on the table.
!ach proposal has been put forth as a means for dealing ith XYZ"s
immediate financial problems.
#roposal $% recommends that all employees be retained, but that an
immediate free&e on salary increases 'raises( for all employees be imposed
for the next six months. '!mployees may even be as)ed to ta)e a *+ cut in
pay if things do not improve by the end of that period.(
#roposal $ recommends that ages not be fro&en, but that *+ of the XYZ"s
or) force be laid off. '-ne piece of reasoning behind this proposal is that
ta)ing more drastic measures ill protect/ 0*+ of XYZ"s or)ers and ill
send a message to 1all 2treet and local investors that XYZ is serious about
improving its financial position and that it ill soon be a stable company
once again.(
3he board is evenly split, seven members favoring proposal$ % and seven
favoring pro4 posal $. Yours ill be the tie4brea)ing vote.
