Tree Lighting
The Essex Centre BIA was
pleased to again partner with the
Essex Salvation Army to host the
annual Essex Centre Tree
Lighting event on the evening of
November 24 at the front lawn of
the Essex Municipal building.
The event
was a big
success and
was enjoyed
by the many
who came out
to participate and enjoy the free
horse-drawn carriage rides, hot
chocolate, hot dogs, and
Christmas carols by
the tree.
The Essex Public
School Band and
the Salvation
Army South
Windsor Band
kindly provided
live music for the
event.
The Tree Lighting was also the
Kettle Campaign launch.
Combined with the Letter
Campaign, the Essex Salvation
Army was hoping to raise
$80,000 this Christmas season to
serve local families in need all
year.
Don’t Forget! Participating businesses must exchange the E$$ex Centre Downtown Dollar$ vouchers collected to the Essex RBC by February 9, 2018!
Santa Claus Parade
On the snowy and crisp evening
of Saturday, December 9, the
Essex Centre BIA, and the
Windsor Parade Corp., warmly
welcomed community members
to line Talbot Street to take in the
Essex Centre Santa Claus parade.
This year’s theme was “A
Canadian Red and White
Coloured Christmas,”
recognizing the nation’s 150th
anniversary.
Before the parade, the Essex
Centre BIA teamed-up with
Essex United Church to host a
meet and greet with Santa and his
Missus. Participants were treated
to some sweets, hot chocolate,
and an activity book for stopping
by.

Pavilion Progress
Essex Council recently awarded
the Request for Tender (RFT) for
the construction of the Essex
Centre BIA Pavilion to Goodreau
Sawmill Inc. in the amount of
$319,564.
In 2014, the Essex Centre BIA
agreed to put $150,000 and the
Town agreed to put $100,000
into the project. As the RFT
came back higher, the BIA Board
agreed to forward an additional
$25,000, and Essex Council
agreed to put an additional
$12,800 into the project from the
2017 Heritage Park capital
project as the pavilion will be
one of the focal points for the
Heritage Park. It was designed to
feature similar characteristics to
the historic Essex Railway
Station.
This piece of infrastructure was
introduced as a potential project
through the 2014 Stempski,
Kelly Associates’ Essex Centre
Streetscape & Silo District Plan.
