Functions of VB:

VB1 mainly exists in germ, rice bran and cereal bran, but white rice and refined flour are thoroughly processed, which means a large amount of VB contained is destroyed. VB is water-soluble, so most exists in the surface of rice. If washing rice several times or too hard, VB will flow away, so it’s improper to soak rice for a long time. VB mainly exists in cereals, green vegetable, animal liver and lean meat.
In details, VB1 is mainly from germ, rice bran and cereal bran;
VB2 (riboflavin) is mainly from animal liver, eggs, milk, beans and some vegetable, such as rape, spinach;
niacin acid mainly derives from animal-based food, liver, yeast, yolk and beans. The amount in beans is much more than in vegetable;
pantothenic acid mainly derives from yeast, animal liver and kidney, malt and brown rice;
VB6 mainly exists in lean meat, nuts, brown rice, green vegetable and bananas;
Folic acid mainly exists in green vegetable, animal liver and some fruit;
and VB12 is mainly from liver, fish and milk.
Let’s take the following examples:
1. Rice (rich in VB1)
Every 100g of rice contains 0.33μg of VB1 (thiamine).
For adults, the recommended daily allowance of VB1 is 1.4mg, so we need to have 424g of rice (nearly a catty). I wonder which one of us can have a catty of rice every day.
2. Egg (rich in VB2)
Every 100g of egg contains 0.27mg of VB2 (riboflavin).
For adults, the recommended daily allowance of VB2 is 1.4mg, so we need to have 518g of egg (nearly 9 eggs). I wonder which one of us can have 9 eggs every day.
To say the least, if we have 9 eggs every day, we may suffer with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases since 9 eggs contain 3522mg of cholesterol while the recommended daily allowance of cholesterol is not more than 300mg (equivalent to one egg).
3. Spinach (rich in folic acid)
Every 100g of spinach contains 110μg of folic acid.
For pregnant women and wet nurses, the recommended daily allowance of folic acid is 600μg, which means they need to have 545g of spinach (more than a catty), while for average adults, the recommended daily allowance is 400μg, which means they need to have 363g of spinach. I think there is no one who can have half a catty or a catty of spinach every day.
