This is a serious problem for America’s future
The keys to solving the problem are more parent responsibility, more public awareness and more emphasis on health in schools

South Dakota Children’s health study showed that there is a correlation between a mother’s BMI and her children
Its a parent’s job to set an example for his/her children
This is an important first step because of the amount of time spent at home and the influence of parents

In a Pan-American Health Organization study, “Though media coverage has increase since 1980, obesity rates have tripled.”
Federal Trade Commission report found that the fast food industry spends over $5 million dollars each year on marketing unhealthy foods to children.
In order to impact children, the public has to set up and call for food companies to be more responsible.

NCSL Report- 30% of children exercise less than 3 days.
Health risks of childhood obesity include sleep apnea and hypertension.
Often, more emphasis is placed on academics and grades instead of health. The importance of a healthy lifestyle is underestimated.

Childhood obesity is a growing problem in America
It is increasing in both adults and children
The risks of obesity are serious, especially for children
In order to end childhood obesity, there has to be a broad and far reaching combination of all these factors
